I've been out of town on business most of the week. Tonight, I spent some time at the San Diego Wild Animal Park.

Very nice, Doug. You sure get to travel a lot, I'm jealous! :)

And it looks like they finally moved the lions to a place where you can see them? For a long while, they were on the left side of that bridge, and so well camouflaged in the dry weeds, you could never find them.

 This was a business trip that I'd rather not be on. That being said, I always take my gear and try to make it worthwhile. It beats sitting in the hotel room watching bad TV.

;)

The lions hair looked matted in places. Next time you might consider going up and combing that out before taking the shot.

Cool pictures. How big is that lizard in the first pic? It looks tiny.

It was probably 4" nose to tail. It's just an ordinary western fence lizard.

Lens and Camera list please :)

All of those were shot with my 70-200 4L on my Canon 30D. The lion shots, and the eagle, were all shot on a tripod. The others were hand-held but braced on something; i.e. fence, railing, etc.

Doug, do you have a full sized version of just the eye area of the elephant? They have so much amazing texture in their wrinkly, dried up skin, it's awesome. Years ago (remember when we used film, and scanned it?), my wife took this shot (with a $400 100-400mm, so no comments on sharpness) and we've always enjoyed it, mostly for the texture. With your premium equipment, and digital sharpness, I'm betting there's some real magic in that shot, around the eye and cheek.

(not to hijack....)

Have you ever shot your corals or fish with that lens? Sorry to hijack, I am just in the market for a lens :)

I've not used that lens for tank shots. It's really not a macro lens. That being said, it's a fantastically sharp lens that is a real bargain right now. Now that Canon released the IS version, the older model can be had for under $600
