OT: Thinking about going to the Dark Side..

I think it's due to the amount of glass. I could be wrong. The 1.8 version is a lot faster.

I go for image quality over speed. :D Either way, xtm, check his videos out for real examples then. :) Amazing.

Tremont, there's a guy that comes in to my work once in a while. He wanted to buy the 7D. He's been doing videography and photography for about 60+ years now. I told him to check out your videos (mainly mentioned your name since he brought up vimeo in a conversation). Next time I see him I'll have to ask him if he found your vids.

Today I was pushed one step closer to the dark side and my decision is almost final at this point.

Yesterday, Nikon just released yet another slow prime. It's the Nikon 85mm DX f/3.5. Did I mention it's a crop sensor lens? And who the hell wants a 3.5 prime????

+1. You're already in the dark side.

Nah, a lot of photographers use both canon and nikon. Canon (in my opinion) has a far better lens lineup. Again my opinion. But for me and many others is the reason we went canon. Buy the 5D mark 2 and some fast primes and be done with it. :D  :bounce3:

I have to agree with you on this point. I was a bit shocked too. 3.5? Really? At least the price is almost right.

I have to agree that Canon seems to respond better, and cheaper, to customer requests re: lenses.

Thom Hogan has some interesting thoughts/essays/commentary on Nikon's snobbishness. I wish they would get over it or they might just find themselves without customers.

Good luck with your decision.

Did you say what your job was, or what you're shooting? Canon doesn't really have an answer to the D700 body (yet)... but you won't have any problem finding lots and lots of great primes.

I own 35/1.4 and 85/1.8. They are both excellent on my 5D. The 135/2 is another sweet lens that I'm about to pull the trigger on. With most of the Canon "L" primes, you can shoot them wide open, in fact that's the point. I've only shot a few frames on the 85/1.2. It's a skill to focus at 1.2, once learned that is an awesome lens. The AF on the 85/1.2 is just as accurate as the 85/1.8, but it's noticeably slower to lock.

If you want sample images the easiest way may be just to check google the lens on pbase.

Good Luck!

:) As if you didn't have enough reason the 85mm f/1.2L II is one of the lenses on the rumor list to be included in on the fall rebates.

Canon's primes are amazing. I really wanted the 70-200 f/4 IS, but I think I'm going to go the prime route:

35L
85L
135L

These are amazing lenses.
