So I posted this in frag because I know a couple of you frequent that board a lot, but I'll also ask here as well just to see what to expect.

My g/f got into UofA med school aand we'll be needing to find a place to stay and I'll be needing to find a place to work down there and I'm wondering how are the neighborhoods/tech jobs/or job market in general. We will be moving down mid July it appears so if someone can let me know that'd be great. We are also planning on taking a trip down to tucson to see the area and get a feel of the area as well....

Stay north of the university or east. I live south west of the school and I hear gun fire every few weeks and my neighbor had their house broken into last night.

okies thanks for the info, do you own your home or rent? we are really wanting to rent a house but will make sure to keep that information handy, any idea what the zip code is for that side of the school?

85713 is my zip. I am living with a friend that bought a brand new house last year in a KB star pass development. I would say if you drew a north south line at Campbell and an east west line at speedway and stayed north east of that line you would find something reasonable good. Good luck though, maybe I have a little higher standards from living in phx but its hard to find a nice place in tucson within a close driving distance to the UofA. Also if your g/f is going to be parking close to the med school make sure she has a good alarm or some type of anti-theft device b/c my truck has been broken into twice and I know others that have been stolen.

I live in 85710 and there are two houses for sale on my street/viewable from my house, If you are a teacher, have fun with TUSD! lol Booth-Fickett MS is in walking distance, but the U of A is rather far, but not that bad. Good luck!

ok you guys are starting to scare me....

I'm in the tech industry more specifically web hosting. Looking into jobs has been somewhat ominous to me from what I'm looking at but we might be getting an apt. although we've been spoiled from house living in tempe too :(

she's going to be full time Med student and we'll be in tucson for 2 years and then go back to phx to finish her residency at the Osborn hospital.

Above all else how's the fish scene? I'm going to have a lot of days to do nothing at all and am kinda worried about my sanity...

I'll guess we'll be doing a lot of sight seeing....

I live on the Northwest side of Tucson north of orange grove. I work at the University and its not that far of a drive, it takes me about 20 min to drive to work in the morning with the traffic and all that...

Every city has a not so good side of town, even PHX. It just depends on where you find a place is all...

yeah thats why I've been living in tempe :) but she wants to be in walking distance of the Medical school which is apparently located in a different area then the main campus. Although we'll check out the neighborhood this weekend and maybe find a place that would be nice enough.

Ceretta and I live only a few blocks away from one another (his wife was going to the U of A med school). His and I's neighborhoods are fairly decent, but you still need to protect your house. There is a lot of crime near the U just because of the amount of students. I have never had a problem with my house getting broken into or anything.

Tucson has nice neighborhoods that are right next to crime ridden ones. You want to avoid any neighborhood that has a 50% or greater rental rate.

I would avoid the neighborhood between 22nd - Golflinks and Wilmot - Alvernon.

The Oracle Rd Corridor from Drachman - Wetmore.

Also, most of the Southwest side of Tucson basically everything southwest of 22nd and Kino that in the City limits.

thanks for the info guys, we'll be down on sat. afternoon to take a look at things, and check out apts. and houses for rent since we'll only be staying for 2 years we won't be buying any property.

You might want to check out Camino Seco Apts, Edgewood Apts & Harrison Park Apts. They are all on the East side - I believe they all come with washer & dryer. Nice areas and nice apartments. Edgewood and Harrison Park are on Harrison street which is under construction but should be complete by January of '08'.

Happy hunting.

The apts that buckeyenewbie recommended are awesome.
The Eastside is where its at as far as good prices rentals. I live on grant and wilmot and I love this area. it only takes me about 20-30 mins to get to school at the UofA which is right next to the college of medicine. This is a very affordable section of the city to live in and I dont have to worry about vandals, break ins, car theft etc...

thanks for the info, after visiting this weekend we have some better idea's although there wasn't to many things open unfortunatly
