OT Ultimate DIY Reflector project

Got your attention.

Thought I would post my ultimate reflector that I have been polishing for the last 2 1/2 years. It is indeed polished aluminum and painted by myself with the help of my two boys. I also built the airplane as well and she will cruise at 200+ mph. This is the other hobby that consumes a lot of my time and money. I finally was able to do my high speed taxi testing today and will do a final check under the cowling before I take it to the air hopefully next weekend. She already has flown for four years and I finally decided to make it look good. Had to share.

Some people have been asking me what my Avatar means. Well the airplane model is a RV6 and I took a spin off of words of aviator and my avatar is RV8tor.

Seriously though if someone needs to touch up their reflectors for the lighting bring them by I am sure we can make it like new again.

For those that will make a comment, NO it wonââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t go over a tank or fit into one. Well, it will go over just really high and fast. ;)

Hey John , better fly that bad boy on a cloudy day or wear a welding mask to fly it. So much sun, need better shades. LOL

Well that explains why you can afford this hobby :P. On a serious note, that is cool as hell man. Very nice job! I hope RC doesnt decide to delete your post though. They have a tendency to do that when the thread is not reef related.

i am deathly afraid of flying, but that plane looks awesome! got anymore photos of the rebuilding process?

 sheez, you never stop throwing digs at RC do ya? RC staff has never deleted one thread in the history of the website. oh wait, i am wrong, EB deleted one thread to protect his a$$ thereby breaking RC policy and hence had his permissions restricted, but i'm sure you recieved your copy of conspiracy theory that month... grow up, get over it, or move along.

I have tons of photos of the building process far too many to post, FAA required it to show proof that I was the builder. If you want to see them I'll be happy to show them to anyone. It was totally built from a kit and I have over 2700 hrs building it not to mention the polishing time.

john,

CIMA offers a sub domain of the CIMA website free to its members. if you have the time and desire to build a website i can set you up with a url and host at no charge. our package has a ton of available bandwidth available and it goes virtually unused for the most part (aka we can host most your photos). just let me know. i'm sure a lot of people would have interest in seeing the project detailed out. i know i would.

I think I have simply decided that arguing with you Henry is a waste of time. If you want to continue posting crap in a demeaning, disrespectful way, thats up to you. I am done with you. Seeing I cant do it in return and stay a member of RC I choose to simply ignore you. Unfortunatly the ignore feature does not work on mods.

Horace, every post has a "Report this post to a moderator." I will use it for you. There are other moderators than Henry.

Thats ok man, I dont want to make this any worse than it already is. We have already cluttered up this thread with garbage anyway and to be honest nothing is going to change. This line of discussion is what lead to me getting banned the first time and I would like to just squash it now and just resign myself to not bothering with replying to his posts. Its not like he will ever change his mind about me or anything I say anyway.

Hopefully John will use some CIMA space and post pictures of the process. Maybe we can get him to build us some custom reflectors. :)

I would like to learn more about the CIMA space, something that would be neat to put up. Most of the photos are pre digital so it would also tank alot of scanning before hand. Plus you would also see how skinny I used to be, remember this project started in 1994, you can also watch my boys be bigger as well. I guess as they got older and bigger so did I.

Lowell " insert wise crack".

As for reflectors, I do have scrap aluimium, various sizes anywhere from 7 foot long by 3 ft to smaller. I don't have a metal break but we could figure something out for the bending. If someone had a small break or a portable one that would be much easier. I wouldn't mind having a DIY meeting sometime either. Lord knows I have enough space to host. If there are any other pilots/reefers that want to fly in to my airstrip, you are cleared to land at 33IL.

I believe the majority of the scraps is .25 and .32 2024T3. I may have thicker and some thinner, just depends what I had to do over on the plane.

Looks cool! I wanted to go up to Wisconsin a few years back to fly in an old ww2 trainer Texan. I'd love to go up in a P51 but I know those flights are $$$$.

If you got some scrap 4' long, I do need some reflectors for my vhos...
