Anyone hiring???

We got the word today that Verizon is buying my company. It will probably be around the end of the year before the transaction completes. With the knowledge I have, this could go very good or I could end up unemployeed. It really sucks to think I will have to sell my tank and shut down my pumps. Who knows how this will go. Guess I wanted to vent a moment and pass on the interesting news.

grrr, Mike I hope they keep you turning off the tank would really suck.

fingers crossed for you, and in the end i hope you end up with a better job with Verizon.

Hi Mike,

Mergers/acquisitions are quite anxiety provoking. Hopefully you will get more information soon, so that at least you can start planning for the most likely contingency. It's the variability in these situations that is most unsettling. Just wanted to say good luck, best wishes, and hopefully things turn out well.

Sadly the days of sticking with one company are pretty much gone. I've worked in finance for 20 years and been through 3 mergers and have either had to let people go or been let go.

We're becoming a nation of gypsies always on the move for employment. Cleveland is the 4th city I've lived in and I'm moving at the end of the summer.

I feel your pain, was i was in the same boat when Macy's bought May Company. I went so far as to have gotten a release date, severance package details and the whole nine yards and then got lucky as I then got kept on in another dept they started up here. Was funny cause just a few years earlier there was talk of May buying Federeated(aka now just called Macys)

I have always been able to hear you Kreeger :)

It seems Verizon wants this deal completed under the Bush administration. So, we hope to have some answers in the near future. It's just the uncertantity that you mentioned shawn that is daunting. There are so may possibilities at this point every new seed of speculation makes my head spin even more. I suppose I can look at this as a good character builder, hahahaha. There is always the option to return to the green machine, aka the US Army. Digressing back into goverment service is not at the top of my list. However, it still is an option.

Hey Mike, I know what you are going through. In today's corporate environment it seems no one is immune, no matter what industry.

Its been a while since I was in the wireless industry, however, if I recall correctly, Alltel and Verizon, although both CDMA, used different OEMs for their switching, etc. Given this, do you think they be able to integrate the two networks so quickly, even if the purchase was completed by the end of the year?

Also, my dad is still in the business, I can touch base with him and see if he know's of any opportunities.

Hey Jeff,

How true it is that corporate environment is as volitile as gasoline and a match.

Most companies are going to a IP based Nortel IOS application. You can mate any vendor beit, Motorola or Lucent to the Nortel and remote to various locations. Our issue here in north Ohio is that Verizon and alltel both occupy the 800 MHz bands. We are on the B side of the band and Verizon is on the A side. In most circumstances a company is not allowed to occupy both bands in a given area. Now, after doing some research amidst all the turmoil. I have found cases in which companies do occupy both the A & B band in metropolitan area. This little bit of information gives me hope for the future, but no guarantees to the outcome. Hopefully with the election in play and all the FCC folks worried about their jobs next year too, will allow us to get by in the same fashion. I just don't want to put a Revol sticker on the side of my truck any time in the near future. I suppose it would beat the lack of an income, but I am sure I would be seeking employment elsewhere.

I was hinting at the catch phrase...lol No more WIZARDDDD commercials then I guess. Kinda like those too.

MJ, where are you going next?

Well unless I can find something here in the next couple of months I'm moving back to Chicago.
