I'm getting a mountain bike for my wife. Im not interested in the Walmart, Target brands. I have a Terk right now which is still going well after 8 years. I was wondering if I should stick with Terk and a good bike store with some super deals. I went to Jax in Huntington Beach for my last bike. Looking to spend in the $400 range.

The Bike Co. in Lake Forest.
One of the Top Pro Shops around. I just spend a lot $$$$$$.

Supergo no longer exists....Performance bought them out....

If you want the best deal go to Performance bicycle for the best deal Its like a block away from Tongs

Super Go
Performance Bicycle

I remembered Supergo a while back but when I went to Supergo's website it directed me to Performance Bicycle. Did they merge?

I'm not into Mt bikes but I've heard good things about REI

Well, I guess maybe I am into MT bikes, just a diff kind.

Checkout MTBR.com it is the reef central of the biking world. Most times you can find great deals either locally or guys willing to ship stuff. Otherwise...Performance, formerly SuperGo is usually a great shop for huge selection, but doesnt carry specialty brands like Santa Cruz, Yeti, Kona, etc. Best bang for your buck is probably Kona. My favorite is between Yeti and Santa Cruz. If you are buying new and arent sure of what weight/travel length bike you really want, be absolutely sure to take demo out for a real ride on a trail. Most all shops will let you demo a bike for about $50/day which you can use towards your purchase. Because this thread came up, I created my own... see here:

EDIT: Didnt see your $400 budget. SC, Yeti, & Kona are well beyond that range.
