OT: where to buy iPhone?

Well, my wife wants a new cell phone for her birthday so I'm gonna get her an iPhone.

Where is the best/cheapest place to buy an iPhone. I know Apple has pretty strict controls on pricing, so if its the same price no matter where I go, where should I buy one?

Or if there is indeed a cheap place to buy one, where?

Thanks.

apple online, apple store in person or an ATT store.

Pricing all the same.

Now, for some frags I May be able to get you a discount :D

if your wifes cell phone contract is up you could sign up for a new 2 year contract, get a free phone, and then the next day purchase the iphone, and you could either keep the free phone or sell it. it could save you a hundred bucks or so.

all those free phones are usually cheap o's. If they arent, then you have to do a rebate and wait for the money back from them....From my experience thats what Ive encountered

your best bet is apple store inside Arden mall. they usually have more than the AT&T stores do. Call ahead first to double check. Otherwise, Apple Store Online, and have it shipped directly to your house.

I was hoping Apple would engrave the phone like they do the Ipod Nanos, but apparently they don't do that for the iPhone.

If I must pay full price, I prefer to buy it direct from Apple, so they get the max profit off it.

norcalsig, that is a very interesting idea. I never thought of that. Since the iPhone requires a 2 year contract, I'll look into going this route. I might even have some kind of 'good customer credit' through ATT. Don't know, but I'll give it a shot!

So, how about iPhone accessories? Any suggestions? I'll get whatever protective film is recommended online and probably some kind of case for it.

Another reason to try and get the free or subsidized phone is because
with the iphone you can not get insurance, so if you loose your iphone
you always can use the other one.

As far as accesories go, I would get the "crystal" film apple sells online and at the store. It goes on perfect and you can't tell it's there.

If you're lucky enough to know somebody who works at Pixar, you get 25% off. It's every bit as cool as they say it is. :D

Okay, there are some gripes, especially with the camera. I want to shoot video with it, and use a flash, and be able to see myself if I want to flip the phone around and take a picture. You can't send a picture directly to another phone (but you can to an email). Not easily anyway. These are features that come standard with "lesser" phones. Hopefully they fix some of this with future software updates.

fyi, i have an inside source saying verizon customers will have their own iphone, no details yet but suppose to be out within the next month

LOL or someone who works for apple.....

If you cant send an email from an iphone then you shouldnt own anything tecno fancy. Its about a 3 step process 1 take the picture 2 hit the email photo 3 enter email and send.

wham bam thank you ma'm....

LOL

( Side note: I need coffee.... too goofy)

I also got the hard clear protective cover for mine. It snaps into a a little belt holster.

I am somewhat happy with mine. I am still learning its in and outs as I am too busy looking at RC all day, instead of learning about my phone :)

This is extremely unlikely, Trevor. Although Apple and ATT's contract is not publicly known, all sources point to a 5 year exclusive deal. There is no way Verizon is going to offer the iPhone any time soon.

I know there are MANY downsides to the iPhone and I would never consider it for myself until they are fixed. This phone is for my wife, so she won't even miss the features that are missing that I require.

Thanks for the help. I'll probably figure out what I will purchase it this weekend.

Yeah, but you can't text the image. you have to send it email. That means whoever you send it to has to have email on their phone too. Moreover, any media files must be opened through email as well.

I'm all about apple. The iphone looks sweet. But for the price, I'll wait. Too many cool features will be added on gen 2 and 3. I mean, look at the ipod. I have a gen 2 ipod that I spent like $450 bucks on. Yeah, it s a 10gig!!! Now, they have 80 gig video units for like $300.

I went with a blackberry 8800. They have been in the phone biz for a while, so it has all the "little features" that the iphone should have. Don't get me wrong, the iphone has some cool stuff my phone dosen't, but its too expensive for now, and this phone is the next best thing.

My roomate has the iphone, and I can tell he gets a little p.o.'d when I make my own ringtones, and text images etc., etc. He's gonna get even more upset when I get the newer generation and hes holding a $650 dollar dinosaur :D

For the original poster, I'm pretty sure they are the same price everywhere you go. The apple store, ebay or ATT would be the only places to go.

I wouldnt buy from ebay, you never knew if it has been unlocked and if it was then you do an update and your phone is dead.

I was able to make my own ringtones and install other applications from other companies, but ya gotta hack the phone and go thru a process.

alot of the updates to come are just software based they just need to write.... So it will come, the phone is in its infancy. Come 2g or 3g Iphones I will more than likely rebuy a new one.

Did you already hack your phone? If so, can we get together so I can get some transformer ringtones and etch a sketch :)
