OT: where to buy iPhone?

I go to Hackmyiphone.com for info

and also

the main group for lots of Iphone stuff

http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Down side to the Hacks is my battery life turned to DOO DOO. So be prepared to keep a charger on hand at times and at home....But I also had my phone DOING way more than any normal iphone.

I may put the hacks back on, But ill keep is normal for a bit.

I think I unlocked it. I installed etch a sketch, but it just goes back to the main screen after I touch the icon. :(

Sorry i should of said that Verizon's is not the actual iphone, Im aware of the 5 yr deal with AT&T and Apple, which I think actually hurts them... they have a diffrent but close to similiar product coming out.

No. You jailbroke it; i.e. opened it up to 3rd party applications.

Unlocking is a different process that allows you to use another GSM provider's SIM card. I don't recommend unlocking unless you have a specific need. What you just did is completely reversible by just using the "Restore" button within iTunes. Unlocking the SIM can lead to update problems down the road.

Do you know why I can not use my etch a sktech or why the new downloads are not opening? I guess I should start a new topic maybe.

No worries, we can discuss all things iPhone. There was a website I found that has games made for iPhone. You access it via the internet and has a 'desktop' (can you tell I'm a windows guy?) of all the games you selected. I can't find that website now. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I was able to get the etch a sketch working. You wouldn't happen to know how to change my theme, aka the transformers theme.

For themes you have two application choices.

1. Summerboard. It replaces springboard (the iphone gui/finder)

2. Customize. You retain springboard but you can change system related icons, sounds, etc....

Summerboard is better looking and more flexible but it's got some issues regarding power management.

actually unlocking can "BRICK" (techie term for breaking) the phone. as with apple latest update, it made phones to be used with Tmobile "Unusable"

so be carefull with that

Actually, that's not true. The latest update, if applied incorrectly could make your phone tedious to restore but it didn't "break" anything.

My phone has been updated to 1.1.1, is unlocked and works with any SIM. It's not for the faint of heart, you need to know what you're doing and should be pretty technically savvy.

That being said, I do have a valid contract with AT&T. I just like to have options when I travel.

Cheers

HAHAHAHA....... Bragging rights we must enjoy lol

Yeah, that credit/debit purchase is kinda strange. they say its to further limit because too many people were buying up to 5 phones and modding them to sell them for other networks.

Now only 2 phones

thanks for the suggestion!

if your wifes cell phone contract is up you could sign up for a new 2 year contract, get a free phone, and then the next day purchase the iphone, and you could either keep the free phone or sell it. it could save you a hundred bucks or so.

I just wanted to thank you for the suggestion. I stopped in ATT across from the galleria on Tuesday and asked the guy if I bought a new phone on a new contract that day if I could come back the next day and get the iPhone. He did one better for me and got me all hooked up right there. I got a new Razr V3.xx for $20 and an iPhone for $399. He went ahead and transferred my phone to the Razr. It was easy as pie. I'll hang onto the Razr for now since its newer and nicer than my old phone and sell it when they release the next gen iPhone.

My wife flipped when she got the phone for her birthday! thanks for the help. Now I get to figure out how to set up some custom ringtones for her. She has had an absolute blast playing with the iPhone for the last two days.
