OT: Will be in STL tonight and tomorrow, need some good restuarants

http://www.monarchrestaurant.com/

Ask for the bistro menu and try the Lobster Macaroni and Cheese. (Lobster, Shrimp, can't remember if there is crab in a Lobster Mornay Sauce)

Like I said, if you're not drinking much wine which they match with your meal, it's not too bad but IMO, the best restaurant in ALL of St. Louis.

Also, remember, if you're unhappy, I'll send you $5, I'm that confident. :D

He means that $5 he gives you won't make up for anything. Expect....around $40-$50 a person depending on drinks.

Looking more around $25-30 pp minus drinks, appetizers, etc...

Could have went to mcdonalds instead of cunettos and could have went all out at any restaurant.

Monarch is AMAZING but I think I like Sidney Street Cafe better.

Unfortunately, this is not an inexpensive restaurant either.

Ray,

If you want St. Louis, you need to try toasted ravioli, a brain sandwhich, a Slinger, and pork steak. :) If you get hungry and need a snack, you need to go to White Castles and get a belly bomber.

If you want good BBQ, Super Smokers is the only place to go. If you want run of the mill stuff, go to Bandanas (wet sandwiches are over sauced, ribs are tough with little flavor)

If you want to try "pub" food, check out the Trainwreck - Honey Dijon chicken sandwich and dirty fries are highly recommended (and one of the best burgers in St. Louis). Also, McGurks has passable food (Chicken Wings) pulls a good pint and live Irish music most nights.

How's Pittsburgh these days? I grew up on Sheridan Avenue near Highland Park, my Grandfather was born in Braddock and my G-Grandfather emmigrated to Donora and lived by another (more famous) transplant with the same last name.

Seamus McDaniel's in Dogtown has the best cheeseburgers in St. Louis. mmmmmmmm I want one now and its breakfast time.

If you go to Seamus McDaniel's you have to get the ribeye sandwich. It is very good. Although I can't think of anything I have had bad at Seamus.

What about a steak.... to hell with pastas and sauce. Citizen Kane's Steakhouse. Make a reservation and better than Mortons or Ruth's Chris. You will have one of the best steaks you have ever had, if not the best.

Howie

Citizen Kanes is good...

My general rundown on some of the restaurants in StL...

King Louie's...Rocks
Remy's Great standby, reasonably priced, (within your previously mentioned limits)
Annie Gun's...Rocks

Modesto...good place, interesting concept, good food.
Cunneto's....eh. Never understood the allure. It was okay the 4-5 times I've been there, never had the magic moment everyone else describes when talking about the place.
Lorusso's...not bad, better than Cunneto's IMO, but not as good as:
Trattoria Marcella...Rocks
Mangia Italliano, another good place, less expensive than the Trattoria Marcello.

For burgers and a good time, go to Blue Berry Hill...food is good, but its only half the experiance, seriously.

Zoe's Pan Asian...might be the upper end of what you want to spend on eating out for one night, but good food as well...See Sara at the bar, tell her Nick sent you...
The go drinking at the Tin Can...if you're still hungry after Zoe, try their Mac and Cheese...seriously, you'll be amazed. Its that good...and I dont even like macaroni and cheese...

Dont know how many days you have here in town, but I worked in the bar business for several years before jumping over to the dark side, (Law Enforcement), and know lots of different places that are definately worth seeing while you visit our city...

Try some of them and you'll definately get a better impression of what St Louis is really about.

Nick

I went to Barney's BBQ on manchester road in ballwin or ellisville and it was awesome, but its only open during the summer

I am pumped for super smokers whenever I get down there to go...although smoky bones isnt local I thought it was delicious

bandanas is alright, its kind of like famous dave's if you've had that
