Check again, mac's do not come preloaded with windows, infact you need a third party software to install windows, but it is doable

exactly my point, mac's are mucho-mucho years ahead of windows, that is why I like them.

Except for that little problem that practicaly no one uses a Mac. :D

Seriously, I have many years of experience in embedded software development. For many years everything was done on Unix workstations. Then we moved over to Windows machines with remote logins to the Unix servers. More recently we've moved to graphical UML design tools in windows, and we even do our builds on a build cluster - of windows machines. At no point in my career have I worked with a Mac product.

Macs arn't necessarily ahead of windows, it's just MUCH simpler to use. OSX is just Linux with a fancy frontend (whether you like it or not :P). I personally run OSX, Ubuntu Linux, and XP all on my Dell Inspiron. I like OSX for when I'm just surfing the net and chatting on AIM, because for simple applications like that, it's perfect (however sound doesn't work on the dell OSX yet :( ). When I'm feeling in the mood to try out new frontiers, I go command-line crazy in Linux, but it is also the best/most stable/most user friendly out of the box OS that I've used in a very long time. The only reason that I can't leave Windoze is because most of my games can only be run in Windoze (even though there are programs to allow SOME windows games to run in Linux). Personally, I find comfortability in the complexity of windows and linux, and things like OSX are just too simple for me (i.e. I hate Ipods, too simple! I prefer the dell/creative offerings instead because they include much more complexity and information).

Vista is going to be VERY expensive, and more just a visual upgrade for the end-of-the-line consumer. I've used my friend's computer with Vista Beta on it, and it was merely okay. It's nice to see that they're finally stepping up to the security that Linux/OSX has had for years/decades, however better late than never. I'm happy with XP since Service Pack 2, and I'm not going anywhere for a long time, as long as new games don't require Vista.

Even if I did upgrade to Vista, my computer couldn't handle the graphics, because ever since I've become addicted to reefing, I've spent all of my money on my tanks instead of my computers.

Anyway, if you DO NOT want Vista, just DO NOT learn how to use Bittorrent, and then DO NOT find Vista on torrentreactor.net and DO NOT download it.

Jeff, you are absolutely right, the fact that not all people uses Mac's is a problem for me, this is mainly because I really feel bad for people who have to put up with daily pop-ups windows, crashes, error messages, severe slow downs, hardware compatibility, software compatibility not to mention the millions of viruses that are out there ready to put you out of business and the list goes on and on.
I know this because I was/am a windows user before and for a very long time struggled for absolutely no reason other than being ignorant that there was something much better out there, thankfully, I was able to break those paradigms, that makes us think that we need to follow what other people does just because there is more people who does it.

I hear you men!

I've BETA tested for Windows OS's since the early 80's, right now the most current release of Vista, that is publically available is Release Candidate 2. I have been working with Vista for over a year. I think at this point just about anyone could sign up for a copy of the BETA RC2 on the microsoft website. The Ultimate version is the only one that I've had my hands on and so far I'm very fond of it, however, as usual at this stage of the game, drivers and other third party support is rather thin. I was able to get everything I have running, with a little coaxing, straight from the original installation files. I did need to get additional 3rd party (NVidia) video and RAID support, in the form of drivers, which are available. At this time the stability of the OS is very good, performance is not up to par with XP Pro SP2, the look and feel is slick (providing you have the hardware to handle it), RC2 boasted some additional video support and speed, multiple monitor support isn't what it should and/or needs to be.
Bottom line, if you don't have the latest and greatest in hardware (RAM, Video, CPU AND MotherBoard, wouldn't hurt to have a stripped SATA array) I wouldn't bother with the upgrade, and btw, I wouldn't do an upgrade PERIOD. To get the most from the OS you should perform a clean fresh install.

Hope this helps ...

The Beta closed a while ago. I tried to get in a few months ago and it was closed, unless they reopened it. There actually should be NO way that it's open now, with the release date coming so soon.

Yeah, never upgrade. Backup your important files, corral your software to reinstall, and FORMAT! upgrading makes a buku mess of everything, and usually screws up the comp to the point of where it won't work well until you reformat anyway.

By latest and greatest hardware, you MUST have a comp no older than 1 year. Mine is 1 year, and it's out of date.

If anyone in the club ever needs computer help, now they know that they can turn to some people for it, or at least to me, can't speak for everyone. Instead of free beer, you can give free frags too!

Any club members can feel free to ask for help anytime, most know me for photographic efforts; it is computers and IT however that have kept food on my table for the past 25 years.

Okay how bout this does anyone have the software on a CD and would like to let me get a copy please tell me i will come and pick it up thanks for your knowledge all!
