OT - Yosemite preview

I just got back from 3 days in Yosemite. I've still got a boat load of pictures to go through and process, but here's a teaser. This was last night, shortly after sunset from the cliffs above Tunnel View.

I'll try and get more posted tomorrow after I've had a chance to go through them.

Double exposure for an enlarged moon? Oh... this is the digital age.... I have to ask the magician his tricks... was the moon really that large?

It really was that large; it was amazing. That image has had some minor shadow/highlight recovery, noise reduction and some sharpening but is otherwise not retouched. I went with a group and there were about 5 of us in the same spot. We had just shot a fairly boring sunset and were just standing around talking. One gal in the group looked up and said, "Is that the moon coming up?" We all spun around, spewed several expletives and starting shooting like crazy.

Here's a couple more. This one is Friday night from Sentinel Dome. On the hike up it was raining, hailing and finally snowing. Right before sunset we got a short break in the weather:

This is also Friday night, but from Tunnel view and illuminated only by moonlight:

That is really cool- I love the look of the clouds in that last shot. I went to the tunnel view spot last spring with family. Climbed up the hill a little looking to clear the foreground trees... it was fun slushing around in the snow above everyone :p

Beautiful capture on the first shot. Might want to tweak with exposure a tad though.

Nah - I like the exposure the way it is. Honestly, with the moon completely full it was really hard to have any detail in the landscape without blowing out the features on the moon. I'm very happy with it because that's really what it looked like. I hope to get through the first pass on more tonight.

How long was the exposure? Looks a bit underexposed. Maybe try underexposing one and over exposing another for a blend? Luminous Landscape has tricks on this technique.

I know how to do a blend, I just don't want to. ;) Also, if you're monitor hasn't been hardware calibrated you may not be seeing the right brightness (it's also possible that your browser isn't reading the ICC profile).

Definitely not a calibration issue there. I viewed the pics on three monitors and all are calibrated. If you prefer it that way then it's your call.
