OTish- anyone looking for a leopard gecko

Hey all,

with my growing fanatacism for reefs, I'm realizing that my leopard gecko Spot who is about 4 years old probably isn't enjoying all of the time I spend with husband, cats, tanks, school, work...

he's more of a gentle guy who loves the warmth of your hand and likes attention (loves to sleep all day too ;p) and deserves more attention than I can give him right now with everything else going on. My cats are also deathly afraid of him and shoot their claws at anything that moves for a good hour or so after handling him.

I know, I know it should be the other way around, gecko afraid of cat. It's not, and I have battlewounds to prove it. I was thinking of the thread on birds and how well everyone mixes together but some species just aren't very trainable when it comes to that. Then again, my one cat will flip out almost equally if he sees you eating a cookie. It is very, very strange.

I was wondering if there are any reefers out there who also have a soft side for herps and would be willing to trade me a nice frag of something from their tank for the whole kit n kaboodle- Spot, his cage, warming rock, flood light. He has a little decoration in his tank and a water bowl. He has calcium-sand substrate that is very fine.

If anyone is interested let me know and I can work on getting some pictures going. I have had this guy since he was a baby and had little stripes instead of spots and it kills me to do this but I know there is probably someone with more time out there for me who could really apprecriate him.

Thanks for checking this out :)

I had many reptiles last year, and then gave them to a friend because aquariums got a little intense, but what a coinkydink i was just at petco today and wanted to buy a new reptile of some sort and get back up to the craft again. I think i would like to work out a trade with you, does the tank come with a hood or top? and how big is it, becuuse if it it soo big, i cannot take him. Cool :)

Aquariums are so intense and their maintainance and care, at least for me, takes a lot of time - and its not agood idea to juggle a gecko with freaking out cats near saltwater. At all. ever! haha

He's in a 20g long? its 30" long by 12.5" wide by 12" high. The cage has a covering thats like this (the bottom one) that fits pretty snugly over it

He also has a half-log for a hiding spot and a cool magnetic cave that fits like a Magfloat- one part inside to hide in, another part outside you can peel away and look in. Its his favorite spot to sleep.

I named him after Data's cat in star trek, not a dumb generic name like "you have spots so i'll call you spot!"

yeah, im weird.

here's some pics from just now.. our impromptu photoshoot

Yes Chrissie, i would love to give him a home : ). I talked to my paretns and they just rolled their eyes, so that meas yes, but with the added "why"...lol.... Now, two things, first of all, i will upload some pics of the few corals i have to offer and then we have to work out how to trade.....maybe at SITC< maybe this SAT at the meeting, if you go..... Just let me know, i am not too flexible due to the whole no car thing, but we can work something out. Thank you Chrissie, it was like i was meanto have this, i just was thinking about getting b ack into the reptile thingo today...hahaha, thats wierd

working on emptying it out. nice new icon btw, you really look older than you should haha

I also want to say thank you SO MUCH for everyone's interest. I really love my little Spot and it sucks to give him up but the current situation with our schedules and tanks and cats just means he gets a little neglected.

Seth and I are working out a deal now that I think will work out, but thank you all again so much you're superb animal caretakers and rock way more than the rest of the world out there ;p

Wow, these are sooo cool, I ddint know you had one Carol, that is awesome, and i see why he got the name...lol

I can show you some good places to learn about them & their care. They come in a multitude of wild colors. You cannot see it, but Mr. Smiley is known as a carrot tail. He actually got his name from a smiley face that is on his head.:) I cannot find all my old pics since my PC crashed the other day. They are supposedly on this new one somewhere.

I'd keep the gecko and loose of the cats!

I know a nice Chinese restaurant that would more than happy to look after them for you. ;)

Okay...flame at will.

No, no, no...not flaming, pan-searing at will:)

It's not your fault that cat is considered a delicacy in many regions of the world...
