Otohime news

I have excellent color in my fish but I feed CE. I am spending a lot of time trying to "educate" lfs on displaying fish, it's not easy because they already know everything  It is amazing how much environment plays a part. In a clear tank with light comming from all sides my fish will wash out pale everytime. With a blue background they have nice color. With a black background they glow, and if you put them in a tank that is 3 sides black they absolutely fluoresce :smokin: Now as if that isn't enough, I have an oc that hopped the fence and is living a tank with 200 bright cherry red tomato clowns. Ever see a red ocellaris? I mean really red? The only way you can find this fish among all those toms is by the stripe, the color is identicle. I will be taking pics of all this and making a flyer to give to the stores.

Kathy, can you find nemo? :D

I agree, and thanks, Anderson, for the reference. I sure would like to see the Ako 1999 paper. Anyone out there got a copy?

How does Naturase compare in pricing to CE ?

The only one of these that I have used is the CE for killys and I got very good results with excellent color. Is there a reasonable priced distributor for both ?

Luis where did you get your squid oil ?? The local Sushi bar ?

Dont got none here in the woods.

If you still can't find it , it the one holding his breath:D

I must be more tired then I thought as I don't get it :(

Ah, North Central Michigan, the cosmopolitan center of the universe  Not too many sushi bars about? Try a bait & tackle shop and look for menhaiden oil. Surely you have a GNC or =, any health food store will some stripe of fish oil. Even Petco has it as a supplement for dog food.

Gresham, YOU are the one who had to poke fun at my arm pit and YOU don't get the "holding it's breath" joke?????

Jake, NatuRose is variable on price, can be quite $$$$. There is another thread (Kathy?) where someone posted a very reasonable source. Of couse you can simply buy pure astaxanthin form Jehmco but the NR source was actually a better deal.

I didn't do an exhaustive search, but Brine Shimp direct has it reasonable. It does not take much to top dress food at 1%.

I get my brine shrimp eggs from Brine Shrimp Direct so that sounds like the best way to go.

I thought Luis had a secret inside route to squid oil, oh well. I've got a 1,000 or so 1000mg tabs of fish oil on the shelf. I'll share with the fish.

So, otohime topdressed with CE/astaxanthin and then some fish oil stirred in, sounds real doable, thanks folks.

CE is big enough for them to eat without more food attached. Top dress otohime with astaxanthin or Naturose, which is the algae that is rich with it.

I obtained "samples"from a local manufacturer. Some few 100 ml vials that will last for years!.I guess many of you know the "samples"trick!;)
Actually soybean oil or just any oil would work for "encapsulation".
Fish oil is used because of vitamins and attractive flavor and taste (for the fish).I chose squid because of the high HUFA content.I think Selcon is emulsified squid oil;)

"purist" that I am, fish oil it is.

On account dont got no squished squids.

I get this cartoon image of elmer fudd trying to shove squids who are holding on through an old fashioned washer wringer.

with the chipmunks trying to sneak in a nut.

Probably why I was never a rocket scientist.

Otohime is around 25$ a kilo on average.
Naturose is 38+$ a pound, which will topdress 45 kilo Otohime. That comes to $25.85 per kilogram for the top dressed Oto. Perhaps add a couple dollars for fish oil.

Freeze dried cyclopeeze is $400 per kilogram.

Not a tough choice.
