Our 29gal reef (pic intense)

Sorry for the late replies, kinda sidetracked here with some friends.

Dan, yea, it's some type of Euphyilla (like a frogspawn-type LPS). Some stores sell a "Octopus Coral" that looks almost like it, but this one has really fat tentacles. I find this link, http://www2.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/html/401-500/Species pages/419.htm (esp. that third pic), which talks about my type, and inside the link to divisa, is the more common one I believe.

P. Penguins, I've had the sponge close to three months now. Yes, you would be correct in the difficult part being not letting it touch air. I wouldn't doubt an item for sale probably saw 3-4 holding tanks before a LFS got the sponge. So there's a pretty high risk chance. However, I think they're more worth the chance, plus they are super easy to monitor, you seen some white skeleton, it's time to pull it or a trim. I had to trim mine, whoever collected it, smashed the base up pretty good. As far as care, I like to 'think' I feed it, shot some 5-300 micron phyto-feast.

engine, I have a couple different types of caulerpa, I'm not really sure of their specific name, but some sawblade, some grape, and some "coin-link" in there. I also have "live sheet algae" in there, plus a frag or two of xenia. I went with calupera instead of cheato, because I tried a really nice football sized ball of cheato I got from a local member, and it did nothing but slowly die and disintegrate.

Found some original pics, if anyone's interested in for comparison. The pics show the two previous aquascaped designs. Also, the old tank stand as well.

so with the tree sponge, you are able to frag it if it gets to large? I was wondering about that part but you said you trimed it. so are you able to frag the trim part?

nice tank knight! how do you like your sun coral? how often do you target feed it? and do you have any pics of it in feeding mode?

P. Penguins, I believe that's how you would go about it. I'm not 100% sure, just know that you could trim the base off. That's how you frag gorgonians which are similar enough, I guess. I decided not to save the base which had some dead tissue and didn't want to risk it.

reiko, I really like the sun coral, it gets a lot of comments too. I feed it every third day or every other day depending on how well it gets fed. I've had to move it since that spot is not remotely easy to fed, I needed an extra elbow lol. Yea, I'll toss a pic up when it opens up.

Thanks Aqua, my red tree sponge should be here on tuesday, if all goes well of course, you never know with ship delays, Im also considering a sun coral as well, my LFS has 3 of them $50 each

No prob, if you do have to trim, be sure to use a really sharp razor blade and not something like scissors, which would crush all the internal ventricles of the sponge. I paid $50 for my Sun Coral piece. If I had to do it again, I would consider the smaller piece, there's over 50 heads to feed!

Love the Xenias, it is nice to see some more people with Red Sea Xenias. Everyone only seems to carry the longer ones. I have both and my tank, and I like the Red Sea species waaayyy more, they pulse faster and more often, but their color is not as detailed as the others. Love the Rics also!!
