So what's new at the Ed and Sandy fish room?

You guys doing okay?

LL

The tank is doing fine. We just purchased a Rainbow Monti, glued it to the overflow box, her neighbors are a Sunset Monti and a Poker Star Monti. The Poker Star looks a lot like the Rainbow to me.....

We also picked up a ORA Red Planet Acro.

The tank is due for a change out on Friday/Saturday..... If Ed has time I will have him demonstrate our change out routine. I know that I has asked him before, maybe I'll get him to stop for a few minutes to type out the details.

How about a shot of the tank and the pool room. I'd like to see what the change turned out like.

Thanks
Aaron

You know what, I never thought about that! When Ed and I do a water change out, I'll take a few shoots of the tank too!

We are very pleased with how much room we gained in the pool room......

Still no trick shoots are allowed.

Also "YOU MUST BREAK AWAY FROM THE TANK!"

In the 5 years we lived in this house with 2 tanks in the pool room, only once, has anyone "ever" attempted to break towards the tanks. Luckily, I was in the house and said:

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?????

and my parrot yelled, BE CAREFUL.....

Then we all had a good laugh.

I would be eternally grateful for a demo and photos of the mixing process/water change with the two tank system.

National tank Outlet wanted almost $200 to ship two 65G vertical tanks... I politely told them, no tanks.

I am talking to two other companies who sell the same tank - one has a location in Shawnee, OK...about a 45 minute drive from my house. I would borrow my son's pickup and drive to get the darn things if they are available.

Thanks.

Check all the local farm and ranch supply stores. In this area, the brand is "Big R" but I know they exhist all over the country. You can usally find really big tanks for pretty competative prices. It may not be the lab grade ones, that were pictured before on this thread, but they are good enough and with just a little manipulation can be made to work. Heck two 55 gallon blue water safe drums could be used and they only cost about 50 bucks a drum.

Tank you...

Tank you...

Ed and Sandy -

Located those tanks at Tanks To Go - they were $89 each. I arranged to have them shipped via freight to my LFS, which was glad to act as my receiving agent. By sending to a business, shipping was very reasonable. I should have them in 5 to 7 business days.

Tanks for the info...

I am looking forward to your updated tank/room photos... Great thread!

LL

P.S. - dogstar - our local farm stores only had horizontal tanks, no vertical at all...

Here is a picture of how the room looks now.

We have been asked a few times about how our water change out routine works.
I will do my best to explaine how it works... Ed is too busy with work now to help....... :(

First I made up the RO/DI water, put a heater in the water tank to match the aquarium, add salt, mix for at lease 24 hours.

next test the water is see if anything is needed like calcium, mag or alk.

if the water tests are good, we turn off the return pumps, move the lights over and then blow off the rocks to help remove any detritius

We made the blue background removable so we can have a full view of the back of the tank.

I like to prime the pump first
DSC_0285.jpg

we use a mag 18 pump to remove the water from the tank, On the lower right side you see a banjo cam lever CAP.
We use the cap when not in use. The drain hose uses a banjo lever cam designed to fit on the end of a 1" hose. They will not come loose or leak! The only metal are the levers and they are aluminum and do not come into constant contact with the salt water.....

We remove 55 gallons of water

DSC_0302.jpg

I then attach the return hose to the tanks, the valve is closed here
DSC_0305.jpg

I close off the return valve to the top of the tank so the water flows faster

DSC_0308.jpg

the other end of the hose hangs in the tank,

DSC_0309.jpg

I made sure to follow the flow of the water, so I don't add fresh water or not close off a valve and it takes longer to fill

DSC_0311.jpg

I open this valve and we are filling the tank now

this is how the valves should look when filling with NSW

DSC_0314.jpg

while the tank is filling, take a minute to clean off the top of the tank

Now the tank is full

DSC_0323.jpg

I need to turn off the valve to fill the tank and open the other valve so the water can circulate so I run the pump dry

DSC_0325.jpg

I turn on the the return pumps

DSC_0326.jpg

close off the valve to fill the tank

DSC_0329.jpg

I am watching the max fill line, If I take out to much water then the ATO will fill the tank with RO/DI water, I prefer at this time to fill with FSW

DSC_0331.jpg

I remove the fill line from the tank and drain the water out of the line before I disconnect it.

DSC_0336.jpg

next I clean up the equipment I used and store it for later.

DSC_0350.jpg

here is the fun part, I spray the floor with fresh water towards the drain, then mop and we are done!
