Our 375g reef tank build & fish room

Sandy

Still lots to do to get ready with the office. And, lots to do on the holding system before I can worry about the main tank.

The ribs are much better, thanks, still tender, but much, much better! Sneezing is still an emotional experience to say the least!

Bax, don't laugh, sneeze, cough nor try to lie down until they heal. Yes, that will be a rough few weeks. Been there, done that - and it was rough. I'd hug myself tightly if a sneeze came on to avoid blowing myself to pieces. I remember staying up most nights because I couldn't find a single position to lie down that didn't hurt.

How were you injured?

Marc

Thanks! I feel, .... OK, when I am lying down, moving at night is tough. Getting up is ... BAD! Two weeks ago, a chuckle or a cough was really BAD! I feel pretty fortunate that I am down to only sneezing and getting out of bed realy cuasing major dicomfort.

... It could be much worse!

erics3000 & New Jer-Z,
Thank you!

Bax,
I glad to hear you are feeling better!

Bax had an argument with a piece of equipment while he was moving his office and the equipment won!

Our clownfish have been laying a very nice clutch of eggs every 13-14 days now. It so exciting watching them prepare their favorite site, lay the eggs, fertilize the eggs, grooming them, the female will bring the male food, and when she doesn't, she will watch the nest and he fends for him self.

They has been very successful at this, and then the babies are born and become fish food :(

I have been dong a lot of research on rearing the fry, and it is a lot of work! I have been reading a book written by Joyce D. Wilkerson, she has a wealth of knowledge on clownfish!

I think I have finally talked Ed into letting me at least try to raise the babies...
BUT.....
I need to be successful with the phytoplankton, then I will try to raise clownfish.

I feel like a child asking for a new puppy, really I'll take good care of it

I have been collecting some equipment too, my daughter has a 39 gallon cube she is not using with a nice light, I have my refugium from the 120 and I have Ed's protein skimmer from his 135.... and a few other misc. pieces I'll need. I can move the clownfish in there so they can relax and lay the eggs in peace.
I can pick up a 10 or 20 gallon glass tank for almost nothing for the babies.
Oh, I have been collecting 2 liter bottles to grow phytoplankton.

It really is amazing how much I have collected without Ed really noticing :o

I have been reading here on phytoplankton:
http://www.melevsreef.com/phytoplankton.html

So on Thursday I ordered the MAXI CULTURE KIT from Florida Aqua Farms:
https://3kserver7.com/~frank/secure/agora.cgi?cart_id=803123.29390*pP5Bp1&product=CULTURE_KITS

It arrived Friday, That was the fastest ground delivery I ever got!

We are going to have house FULL of children this summer, my 2 nieces, Ed's son and hopefully our precious granddaughter will be here too, so we now have a project to do.

Everyone is very excited about the new project except Ed.

Cool project Sandy - keep us update please of the progress.....in the past I wanted to attempt to raise them as well but decided not too for the work involved....!!

Great thread sandy.
Love the documentation and especially the plumbing work.
Will be building my new tank in 7-8 months from now and just started with having the tubing and electrical incorporated in the walls... so your thread was a great help. Luckily we don't pay for sewer so I could directly connect my drain line to the pipes leading to the sewer in the next room...
Now how about some more pics and documentation of your tank inhabitants...

Maroun.c
Thank you and best of luck on building your new system....

I am having a very difficult time setting the white balance with these new lights, so my pictures are not turning out so good.
I am hoping a reef club member will come over next week to help me with the adjustment on the camera.

I have been picking up a few pieces here and there, the tank is filling up fast, I can't hardly believe it!

Just to name a few pieces:
Humulis Acro
Pokerstar Monti
Blood Chalice
Setosa Monti
Sunset Monti
Superman Monti
Rainbow Monti
Purple Rim Monti with white polyps
Steves Elias Stag
Hiller Aqua Delight Acro
Blue Millie
Hot Pink Prosrata (sp?)
ORA Red Millie
Ice Blue Prosrata
Red Mirabellis
Decadia Cyphastria
Pats Blue Tenius
Garfs Bonzai
Pink Lemonade
30,000 League Lokani
ORA Roscoe Blue Acro
Voodoo Blue Acro
ORA Red Planet Acro
Jedi Mind Trick Monti
Birdsnest
Joe the Coral, right now it is BROWN, I'm hoping it will color up soon.....
ORA Pearlberry

We have a HUGH Bi-Color Acro that has encrusted on a large rock, maybe 7"-8" circle, the stalk is 2" thick, I can not even began to tall you how many babies are shooting up around that colony!

We also have several pieces of LPS's

And Ed still has his Mis-Fit Island, However that island keeps moving closer and closer to the back corner of the tank

Nice collection.
Looking forward for some pics.
What camera are you using? and do you have any photoediting software (photoshop) or other so we can maybe help?
I usually try to shoot in automatic WB and correct later on in PP as my tank has some different K bulbs and WB isn't the same all over the tank...

Great tank, equipment room and photo montage. I know what my future tank room will look like now ;)

Leonardo

Thank you Leonard, coming from you, that is a true compliment!
I have been following your build and have learned quite a bit, I have enjoyed reading about your sump area.

Thanks,
I have a Nikon D50 & D80, I like the D80 best. For editing, I have Photoshop 4.
We have T5's and the MH are CoralVue 400w 12K.
I will try again with the WB in automatic and see what I get.
Nikon's from what I have learned like the WB set. I think once I get the WB set with these MH bulbs, I will store it as a pre-set.
