Our 450g reef, 360g predator tanks

love the sump setup...

I use an in-bound and an out-bound sump myself:

That stand is sweet. My web is messed up but you can click on the red house to check it out...not sure why it is all broken up, but I am trying to fix it right now.

I was checking out your website last night. I'm glad you're looking at it because I really would like to see the pics for ideas.

Give it a try now...it imploded a few days ago and never seemed to update properly. It should be OK now.

lol

I was just on your website and most of the pics for the construction and equipment seems to be working now. I hadn't thought about running the SW changing barrel mixing/change pump on a timer. That would save quite a bit on electric. I have timers sitting around too.

I had looked at those containers at Lowes and almost went with them but I went with the 44g brute trash cans instead. I think I'll be upgrading my RO/DI collection barrel and the mixing barrel to 100g rubbermaid fully enclosed tanks though. But I WILL build a stand like you did so I can fill the SW mixing barrel after a WC by using gravity. I'm learning that using gravity where possible is the best way to go. :)

gravity is good. the way mine is set up, I cannot over flow my sumps when doing a water change either because they level off with my make up water barrel.

Those totes are great and I originally purchased them to move the rock when I bought the tank. They were very handy to fill with rock and water, and then roll onto the truck. BUT, they will not last forever and are showing some nice bulging now! I got more than two years out of them though so I am really happy with the way it worked out.

Well, I just received the tracking numbers for my new 72" Solaris I4. I'll use my existing Outer Orbit to light the other 48" for now. I know what Santa will be bringing me for Christmas though. :D

I got the overflow box removed and it's a good thing I did. The bulkhead at the bottom was a 3/4" bulkhead and it looked like the dumped a bucket of silicon on it and around it to seal it into place. The hole is big enough for a 1 1/2" bulkhead. Who knows why they did that.

Yeah, but I wish I would have known, and I wish I could have ripped out the old one and been able to clean it up without removing the overflow box. Even though the bottom of the 1.5" bulkhead would have been about 3" lower than the top of the fuge/skimmer tubs, it would have still worked. It WAS a very small overflow box though so the surface skimming wouldn't have been that great.

But it will make a great input into one of the CL pumps.

Frankie, I was telling everyone that I'm hoping to find someone to build another stand for me that looks just like this one. Everyone started saying "You can buy doors that look just like that at Lowes. Including the decortative beam covers and the corner pieces." I was like D'OH! Of course you can! So I wonder if it really wouldn't be that difficult to build a stand like this for the predators? And then just stain it to this color. All the weight is on the 4x4's that are hidden under everything. Now that I know how they built this stand, I really don't think it would be that difficult to build one.

I doubt you can buy those doors at those places. That stand is big time DIY. The color is natural. The wood is mahogany. If you have the tools and carpentry skills your best bet will be buying the lumber at a mill and building it yourself. Mahogany will not be cheap.
