Our 65 Gallon Shallow Tank Build

Oh and for the record i did fix the sump, and cut down the baffles, i took out about 3 inches of what they were normally to fix the issues beefy had told me about and after having a decently long convo with him on the phone about it too :)

After a long last 2 days, finally got everything hooked up, wired up, and plumbed to my liking, was able to fill it up tonight, so now the waiting period begins... to let it all cycle out..

i must say the vortechs arent a big issue like some people had thought they were gonna be, with this being a shallow tank, they arent really blowing that much sand around, everythings going good so far :) tanks clearing up pretty fast, i just cant wait for the cycle to be done now, if anything the Mag 7 i got on this might be too much flow, kind of strong but eh, since i plan on going sps we'll see how this all plays out :) should be good.

<a href="http://s1113.photobucket.com/albums/k507/Reef1589/?action=view&current=e1-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k507/Reef1589/e1-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Pictures of the rockwork to come... after it clears a bit.

Just annother update since the water seems to be clearing up pretty good :) thought i would show pics of the rockwork.. im still not 100% satisfied with marco's flat pieces.. but eh, i work with what i got. i tried to go for a aquascape that gave Depth i think i might mess with it a bit more while its in its cycling stage before i go and add corals/fish and everything but let me know what you think, i turned the mp10's down so the surface wasnt so rippled to try and get a shot without turning stuff off..

Oh and btw i just want to leave some feedback on some stuff.. i know im behind on the high end fancy technology so this is my first time working with it and im excited

Mp10ES W x2 - perfect for this tank, and i must say definantly worth the money in my eyes, the ability to adjust the flow and dial it down is just awsome

ReefKeeper - LOVE ITTTT, was fustrated at first cause i thought the manual it came with was pretty non descriptive of stuff, but after playing with it for about 30 minutes it all clicked in and i love it, i suggest any new reefer get one of these..

and i cant yet review my skimmer yet as i dont got it hooked up yet, ill run it in a couple days after the shrimp i threw in decays.

Onto the pictures of the rock
Full tank shot.. no light for the fuge yet, will be here this week. i think it looks like a spaceship with the Mp10 Lights and the RK Light

Looks awesome. I hear your complaint re the shelf pieces, but I think the smooth surfaces and sharp edges give your tank a more unique look.

Glad to see you went with the Halide! (It's about time... lol) GL

Someonessss going to be quite angry... haha
CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!!!!!!!.... going LeD from the beginning, i was gonna go MH for a year then change over, but i was suprised with these 2 fixtures from my brother, they are 3w Cree LeD's, on 2 seperate dimmers for each fixture, 1 for white and 1 for blues, 20 LeD's each fixture for a total for 40, and then 12 on the dimmable par38 bulb. :)

here's pictures and yes i know they are crooked at the moment, haha i straightened em after i took the pictures

WOAH WOAH WOAH!!!, too long without an update .. :P i can tell your all worried, sorry for the delay, but here's some pictures, tanks cycling well, i picked up 2 frags just to see if they would live and so far they are, so thats a good sign.. i also picked up something i probably shouldnt had, but its been something ive been looking for since my Haddoni Died awhile back, i went to my LFS and they had a really Bleached S. gig anemone, now i know i shouldnt have bought it at all, but the price.. ($20) ... i couldnt pass it up, and the tanks they were in i figure my cycling water was a hell of a lot better then that.. and i atleast know what im doing with one to some extant as the employee's didnt as they kept calling it a Sea mat... lol but anyways.
only reason i bought it even though it was bleached is it had good tentacle extenstion, and SUPER tight mouth, and was still really really sticky, its been in my tank since Last Saturday.. still a tight mouth, still sticky, and has not deflated once, which im really shocked at.. i was definantly expecting it to deflate during acclimation.. but ya time will tell with this one..also shocked me when he stuck to the rock he's currently at in a matter of me placing him there and took him literally..15 seconds to attach. I know 4 days is no feat with these creatures, i wasnt even gonna post about him till i got past the 2 month mark but figure since he is in my FTS i would explain why he is there.

PICTURE TIME!!!

FTS - the 2 flat pieces all the way to the left will be moved they had just kind of been sitting there for now in the sand.

Here you can see i took some of the suggestions and lowered that baffle about 3 inches to lower the water level... the only thing i didnt do which i wish i did do was add a 3rd baffle to it, its not a HUGE deal, everythings still working fine, and i have almost no micro bubbles in the tank.. so..so far so good.
<a href="http://s1113.photobucket.com/albums/k507/Reef1589/?action=view&current=f4.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k507/Reef1589/f4.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

So far no complaints, its nice to have white and blue be seperately dimmable, in a couple months ill give a better review on em, with coral growth and all.. :)

You might want to watch the salt creep from the drain/skimmer section of your sump. I would move your controllers to the return side.

i was considering moving all controls to the outisde but with my brothers 1 yr old walking around she tends to touch stuff, so perhaps ill do what you suggest and move everything to the return side :) thx for the advice, i noticed the salt creep a couple days after setup and was like erm... that probably isnt good.
