Our C. earlei

prop-frags

SPS Slave
We moved our C. earlei from the QT to our display a few days ago and thought we'd share some pics.

We used an acclimation box to introduce him into the display:

After 2 days of severe aggresion from our C. rubrisquamis, we made the decision to remove him before releasing the earlei into the DT. Our fish are hand fed, very spoiled and very trusting. To remove him, Mike dropped a few NLS pellets into the bottom of our dip & pour container and held it under the water. The rubrisquamis swam in and started munching on the pellets. And he was STILL munching on them as I was transporting him to the QT out in the garage, LOL! :lmao: We are going to move him into our 75g refugium/prop tank to chill out for a few weeks to allow the other wrasses to re-establish their pecking order before attempting to move him back.

Our earlei was a little intimidated by his boisterous tank mates for the first day, but has since settled in nicely.

Beautiful fish and beautiful photographs!

Great lookin fish! Cograds

stunning fish. Your photos never cease to impress. Great looking colors

Beautiful fish! Your tank is amazing as always.

Thanks so much guys! Thankfully, after removing our C. rubrisquamis, there have been no other aggression issues and he's been accepted into the wrasse pack. :D

Nice the wrasse pack! I love the analogy so befitting! Hey I have a pair coming in along with a few lapillus leopards. Did you qt the earls with cuprimine and prizipro or not?

Congrats on the upcoming additions! The only preventative medication we use is Prazipro (2 one week treatments). Otherwise, we use time in QT to observe, feed (several times a day), get them used to captivity, and earn their trust.

Our earlei was acquired from PIA. Kevin did an awesome job conditioning him and he was in excellent health when he arrived. Ours is completely unafraid of people, highly curious and has a very mellow temperament. :D

nice :) my pair is also coming from Kev. Great guy. awesome company. Just about the only place I buy expensive fish from anymore. It just seems they pay more attention to detail and are up on their fish health like a hawk. i can appreciate that. You received that stud super male from a few mos. ago right?

Couldn't agree more regarding PIA. We received our earlei in March. He was 3" when he arrived and has since had a little growth spurt.

Good luck with your pair and please post some pics! :D

What a beautiful fish. I have not noticed how stunning until now.

Thank you! As nice as my pics came out, he's is even more beautiful in person.

I'm shocked...never seen any problems with my 3 red velvets and any other of my 30 wrasses

We suspect he took out our super male C. jordani back in February as it just seemed like too much of a coincidence that the jordani (the "alpha" in the tank) died suddenly and at the same time, the rubrisquamis was missing one of his ventral fins.

Our sub-adult jordani is smaller and takes the subordinate roll, so the rubrisquamis leaves him alone.

I wish I had thought to get a video of his behavior when we put the earlei in the acclimation box. He was out for blood - attacking and biting the box trying to get at the earlei incessantly for two consecutive days. He was so preoccupied, that he ignored food. This was the first time we have ever had any issues adding a new wrasse and his behavior was rather shocking.

The two fish do have similar coloration (ignoring the different patterns of course). Maybe that had something to do with it. We did not have any issues when we added our rhomboids or flasher wrasses.

Great pack you have! I am drooling right now. The bellae are my favorite flasher wrasse. Anymore planned additions to the pack?

Thank you! The Bell's are my favorite flashers as well. There are several more that we would like to add, but my short list would be labouti, lanceolatus and johnsoni.
