hey guys got a formosa wrasse today and i liked him and scott and sean said it would be cool in my tank, was told it might take him like 5 years before he got too big for the tank.....as far as "out growing" i've never had fish for more then 3 years at a time due to moving so i dont know much about that....he is bout 2 2 1/2 inches right now

Well I think they were misinformed, Google that fish and you will find that they require a min 180gal tank they are Aggressive not reef safe fish which only get to 2" full grown. Plus like all Wrasse they are Jumpers and you will need to cover your tank to keep it from carpet surfing. Should have done some research before you bought this fish IMO and Sean/Scott should know better.

i agree with ya Bill i will keep it in QT and see what happens...may have to return him though looking at pics it looks more like a Red Coris Wrasse and not the formosa....i can only say what i was told bout it

Whether it is a Formosa or Red Coris - both get well over a foot long, require a minmum of 150 gallon tank, aren't reef safe and can/may eat crabs, snails and shrimp (if you have those in your tank). I'd take the little fellow back - just my opinion.

yea i think i'll end up doing that, cause i dont want any trouble from him....before i do...anyone interested in him? let me know lol

Mario - why not go with a pygmy angel (cherub or flame - several club members have had success with those and reefs). Or how about shark-nosed goby (like a neon, but has bright yellow on its head) - its a cleaner too, but eats regular food. There are many fang blennies that are gorgeous - because they are so different from your sailfin, they should get along fine. Firefish are interesting and stay on the smaller side - they come in a couple of different colors. Clown gobies are fun and interesting - green, yellow, black, bown, citron... lots of varieties and onlt get 1.5 to 2" long. Fairy wrasses are a good choice - don't get too big and come in a rainbow of colors (and don't have some of the specialized dietary needs of the sand burying varieties (leopard, tamarin, halichoeres, etc.)) - but as noted previosly, many wrasses and other fish, like the firefish, are good jumpers - you'd need to add a lid or put a screen on your tank. Just some suggestions...

You might want to check out Amazon or other online booksellers (maybe even eBay) and look for used copies of any of the Scott W. Michael books (there are several - like "reef aquarium fishes") on marine aquarium fishes. I find they have a lot of good info, good pictures, etc. They are a great resource! (and just to be clear, I do not know Mr. Michael or work for him or anything - I just really love his books!)

i am gonna get me a flame just wanting to make that one the last one i put in there....i like the cardinal the bangi one....i do like the cleaner goby....that there would add 3 more fish and may be pushing my bio load......the flame is for sure in,wanted a lemonpeel too but cant mix them

The cleaner gobies (sharknose or neon) or clown gobies don't count for much in terms of bio-load on a tank your size... they are just too small. So if you were going to add like 10 or so of them... then it would start to add up. But just one won't put you over your limit. Thats why I like them... can have several -they add color/interest to the tank, but don't add much in the way of poop. LOL

My neon cleans everybody... they line up for it! :)

Sorry for the horrible advise. Ive already called Mario and pleaded for forgiveness. When he bought the Formosa wrasse Id had been up shopping with my wife for 36 hours of black friday madness. My mind was off in lala land. I will make it all better.

I have a pygmy cherub angel that I got in a reeftopia order. Can't remember how long ago. Seems like it has been a few years. Brandon (Nevessl) did the order. It's in my 80 and still doin' great.

I would have liked a flame angel though. But the cherub was like $12 at the time so I figured...why not?

yeah scoyy called me and pleaded for forgiveness lol.....naw man its cool like i told ya i couldnt remember a blasted thing about that wrasse so part of the blaim is mine for not remembering anything bout him.....alls good and now my wife would like a watchman goby and pistol shrimp lol but as far as the cleaner goes i think i'll get one also soon :D

Believe me - you are not alone in bringing home a fish or other critter that doesn't belong in your tank!!! Its happened to us more than once, I must confess. :D
