I tried it years ago when I had a tank set up before and didn't have any luck with it. This was about 8-9 years ago. At the time, I had a new hood/bulbs and barely any readings at all for Phos/Nitrate. I hope you have better luck with it as maybe I just wasn't using it correctly.

We used red slime remover (Chemi-Clean). It worked well but because we feed heavily due to the orange cup corals, we have red slime back again. At least it's only in the fuge this time. There is a sticky thread in New To The Hobby on red slime. It's interesting reading. Actually, there are a ton of threads discussing red slime if you do a search. Everyone seems to go through this phase. It seems that the red slime uses up the phosphates faster than your test kit can measure it and there are other phosphates that our test kits do not read. This and excess nutrients are to blame for the bad algaes growth. Most say just suck it out as you do your water changes, cut down your photo period and cut down on feeding and the red slime will eventually go away. As long as I can keep it down in the fuge, I will be happy.

Bob, I've read lots of post saying that even though the test kits show 0 for PO4, there usually still is some. Even with the Salifert tests.

I have something eating one of our leathers. I'll post a picture in a minute. I saw the blenny nipping at the cansy cane yesterday. I wonder if he is also nipping at the leather?

Wehave some large hermits in our tank. I went to the lfs to see if I could get them some larger replacement shells but they did not have anything that would work...all too small. So I went to the beach and picked up some shells. I found a few large snail shells and a small, pretty conch shell. I cleaned them well, then boiled them in ro water and rinsed well again, then put them in the tank. The little conch shell went right in with the snail shells. The snail shells are still sitting there on the sand. One ambitious hermit decided he needed a mansion and he moved right into that little conch shell! He's a having a bit of a time learning to navigate his new home, but darn, if he don't feel gorgeous in that thing!!! LOL

You bet!!! After living most of my life in CT, it's great. When I left CT, there was 40 inches of snow on the ground. I went down to WV to visit internet friends there. The cold followed me and I was there about two weeks when an ice storm threatened. I went down to GA to visit friends there. I was there less than a week when the cold followed, so I decided to go down to Ft. Pierce where my mom and sis were. The day after I arrived turned out to be the coldest day on record. There was ice in the puddles outside.....in Florida!!!
I did not move to Florida to wear shoes or sweats, but to spend as much time on the beach and outside as I can.
BTW, I was cold at the beach that day...it was only about 60 degrees and I had on jeans and a sweatshirt!!! LOL- Status
