I know you got at least 1 from me....cause I saw it in the rock before you took it. But I am pretty sure it isn't the orange color like you showed in that picture.

We saw ours a lot yesterday too, but of course it wouldn't come out in the open so we could get a nice shot of it. All it does is peek. :(

WOW! Great pic Bob!

I've seen my big pistol shrimp plenty of times but he's a master of evading the camera :)

I did find out the other night that I have a little baby pistol shrimp. I've only seen his one big orange claw which is maybe 1/8" across, but I know where he's hanging out in the tank so I'm hoping to see him better or (preferably) get a pic.

YAY! It must be picture day :D

Pat- I'm impressed you can get pictures that good of your pistol! Great shot of the foxface too.

I have a lot of trouble getting pictures of it. In person, I can see it many times peeking from a hole. I take pictures, but it's too dark in the hole, so you can't see the pistol. :( So I have to try and shoot with the flash.
Then other times, if I set the camera on "auto", it will focus on the closest object, and of course, it isn't the dark hole the shrimp is in. So I found I have to do it manually....and then it's hard to focus unless it is in view...and I usually have only a split second to try and focus and shoot because as you know, they sense the camera and disappear.
I must have taken 100 pictures yesterday, only to get a dozen, and none that are great either.
It actually came out in the open yesterday, but the second it did, Bob moved and it shot back into the rock. I was saying "don't move" as Bob did.....so I couldn't get that shot, and of course, it would have been the best one of the day.

pat, i had to use the flash for the shrimp pic. i've heard but never seen the shrimp from your rock.

The one I saw in your rock was about 1Ã"šÃ‚½" long, and it looked green. I was looking at night with a flashlight, so the color really could be different.

Here are a couple of fish pictures I just took:

That post took forever to go thru. When I clicked the submit button, it kept saying I was "searching" for too many things, and suggested I narrow the search down! :eek1:

I've had that problem a couple times recently as well. In addition it happened a couple time just trying to read a thread (wasn't using search)

Great pics!! I think I have a few pistol shrimp in the tank as I'll hear the popping from different parts of the tank around the same time. I've only seen one though and it isn't very big.

A few pages ago, there were some posts about the cukes. Does anyone that still has them see them on the rocks cleaning? I have at least 5 in the tank now. Don't know how I got the extras and they all start out around the time the Metal Halides go off. I see them up on the top rocks as much as on the sand.

I think they're what keeps knocking over my baby clams ( now almost dead from stress) and some of my coral frags.

Our cuke stays on the sand, rarely on the rocks. We see it all the time as it seems to prefer the front of the tank. It's huge now....about 6 inches long and FAT!!!! :)

I'll have to try and get some pics. 2 of mine have grown to oever a foot. There huge.

Yikes! I have heard they can get big. I added one recently to my tank (tigertail-- same as what you guys have). I am a little worried that I won't have enough stuff in my sandbed to keep him fed, and over time will need to trade him in to the LFS for a smaller one.

How can you tell if they are getting enough food or not?

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to tell. You have a 55 gallon? How much of your sandbed is covered by LR? I would guess since they can get to be over 1' long I don't think a 55 is enough. Of course that is just a guess, I haven't looked at any resources (My Shimek book is at home)

I have about 97 lbs of live rock, maybe too much. The sand bed varies from about 5" deep to only 2 1/2 ". I do have plans on upgrading to a larger tank someday.
