Wow....Which is it? The red, purple or both? Too bad it wasn't sponge. I like the colors! :D  ;) :p

What's under it is an orange sponge. The first pic is that stuff on a brain skeleton or what looks like that anyway. What I'm worried about is it killing my only brain I have, which you can see the end of in the first pic.

It's red slime. Suction out as much as you can. High flow does not seem to affect it as it grew extremely well in the refugium and we had a powerhead in there roiling the water. The one thing that I can think that really does affect it's growth is overfeeding. But then again, when we first started battling it we hardly fed at all, just enough for the fish to eat in about a minute once a day. We used the Chemi-clean and it did not hurt anything in the tank, except for the red slime. I hated using it but we had run out of other methods.

Do what Sally says...she's the queen of red slime!
(that wasn't meant as bad as it sounds) :D

Someone will be getting pistol(s) when they get this TBS. I am sitting here listening to clicking....something I have never heard from this tank.
I wonder if it's the babies or the big orange one? I just took a flashlight but don't see any.
OMG...today when we were pulling the rock, there were porcelin crabs EVERYWHERE!! We literally had to chase them on the tarp....they were running around everywhere. Bob had the big orange gloves on and had trouble picking them up. I was afraid to touch them barehanded, but did once. I just saw about 5 in the tank here.

Also, the first rock he pulled out, a serpent star was attached. I picked that up with no gloves on. His condy was on that arch rock, but I couldn't get it off. Bob's sad.
I'd like to remove the flower anemones. What's the best way to do it?

I would get rid of both anemones with the rock if I was you.

Well I sucked off as much red slime as I could and I turned up my Tunze some more. Hopefully it will go away and not come back. Wishful thinking huh!:D

I wish I could. The 2 flowers are on a piece of TBS that we're keeping. Remember the ugly rock that turned pretty? That one.

I would do whatever I had to do to get them off.

BTW, if a reason for red slime if overfeeding then I'm probably guilty. Remember I do have 3 sun corals. :)

LOL, after two bouts with red slime, I'd say I was the Queen also!!! :)

As for the condy and the flower, I've heard if you point a powerhead at their feet, they will eventually let go. I've also heard you can take a credit card and slip it under it's foot to encourage it to dislodge. Good luck!! I'd hate to lose our condy, it is so beautiful now and is the centerpiece of our tank.

As for red slime (once again), Brian also has a good process going. Blow off your rocks several times a week (I am doing this about 3 times a week), also use the powerhead to blow off the top of the sand bed. We are using filter socks and believe me, after I blow off the rocks and sandbed, the socks are disgustingly filthy!! I'm also going to start cleaning the refugium and sump a little better. I was getting conflicting advise and finally came to the opinion that detritous settles in the fuge and sump, so DUH, you need to get rid of it at some point! If all of that and suctioning the slime out does not turn the trick, I would not hesitate to use Chemi-clean.

Is everyone positive this is slime algae? I had something EXTREMELY similar to this growing in a fairly highflow area and I thought it was slime too. It didn't have any bubble in it so I tried to scrape it off. I was very thick/spongelike and white underneath. I ended up picking most of it off, but after doing so I didn't feel like it was algae. Learn something new everyday. Sometimes even twice a day! :D

Unlike Dennis's last comment, mine did not wave in the current. It was very solid. Wish I had taken some pictures too. :(

Well here are some pics of it. Maybe that isn't even what it is.

I don't know if upping the flow will matter because it already waves in the current.

Brian, this stuff was strange looking but it came off the rocks real easy. I thought it was going to be difficult to get off but that wasn't the case.

I think I have a small bit growing back. When it comes in a little more, I'll take a pic and see if it looks the same. Mine definately was not easy to get off. I had to use a pointed stick to start tearing it off. Should have been a sign to leave it alone.

Our red slime came up easily also. It sometimes developed stringy/hairy bits if I let it grow too long. I sometimes just took a skewer and rolled the slime up on it, suctioning up the pieces that split off from it.

Now, we also have a couple of other kinds of red algae in the tank....a red turf type algae, a red gracillaria type algae and red dictyota (which we love!!)

boy, whatever that red slime is, i'm glad i don't have any! pat keep my pistols alive! i guess people will think i'm really crazy with 3 tbs tanks.

looks like red slime to me too. I had some appear in my refugium - the flow was just barely adequate and I had too much of the stuff clogging the box.

Interesting comments on the tube coral. I'll keep all the opinions (even if conflicting) in mind. :D

I was pretty shocked today to see a barnacle is still alive. :eek1:
I saw it extended and feeding. I didn't think any of them survived.

Well, it looks like the orange pistol and at least 1 gorilla are staying here! I saw both in the tank a little while ago.
Dang, I was hoping the crabs would go with the rock being sold (sorry Bob, better you than me :p ). But you probably will get porcelains. I've seen many on the rocks ready to go. The nice thing is I can say we have more porcelains than gorillas! I never thought I'd ever say that.

That is a heck of a way to get rid of gorilla crabs, :D although it doesn't seem to be working.

the "new" tank will get some stocking from my other tanks, my 75 has at least 4 serpents so one will go in the" new "tank, but its still going to be a fowlr

Want to send some of those porcelains to me ? ;) I wanted to have a lot of them, but as far as I can tell I only got 3 and I killed one of them in the re-aquascaping. I thought about asking Richard to include some in my shipment but I've seen so many people getting tons that I passed. DOH!

Brian
