Our Tbs

Luckily, Brett and I are both deeply involved in the tank. However, if something happened to the two of us, there is no one at all in either of our families that would know what to do with the tank. Neither one of us has family near by so I guess it's time to put something in our wills of what to do with the tank should something happen to the both of us!! We tell people we have an aquarium and the usual reaction is, "a fish tank? how nice. <yawn>". Unless you are involved in this hobby, no one knows just what is truly involved.

any guesses on what tbs hitchhicker [ black urchin, serpent ] would eat xenia corals?. mine are dissipearing at night. in the am i find bare rock

Nothing seems to bother mine. Although when I had a xenia frag in my QT I did see the an urchin that appeared to be eating it. It could have been starving though because there really isn't much in there for it to eat.

Could gorillas possibly be eating it? Or any kind of worms? I don't have xenia, so I really don't know. I've had no experience with it.

dennis, i guess i'm going spear fishing tonight. i'll get all the black urchins out.
You haven't seen them munching on them? The one I saw was right on it and then it was gone.

I think if it was gorillas, I wouldn't have any at all.

What kind of fish do you have in the tank? I think I recall reading that some fish sometimes nibble on xenia.

well, i got the 3 urchins out last night and this am the xenia is still there. maybe that was the problem.

Keep an eye on them. I thought about putting the urchin I have in my QT back in my main tank but now I may reconsider. I want to knock down my QT and give it a good cleaning and I don't have any place to put the urchin. I should have taken it to the LFS with but I forgot.

HUM...I never heard of the urchins eating xenia. I put a small pom pom xenia frag in my tank and 2 days later it was gone. I thought it had simply broken free, but maybe an urchin ate it?

My wife loves pom pom xenia, I'll have to get a couple of frags and put them in QT with an urchin and see if it eats it.

BTW...What bags do people use to run their carbon? I had one of those draw string bags for my carbon and it opened up and I ended up with little pieces of carbon all over my sump and in my skimmer pump!!! GRRR!!! I want a bag that won't accidentially open up!

I use these 4x6 mesh bags I get at That Fish Place in my Fluval canister filter on my FW tank and have never had a problem. I also tie them about 5 times and wrap the drawstring around then and knot it up real good. There is no getting them undone though so reusing it is out. I just throw them away.

those 3 urchins will never be going back in any tank. pat,i will get you a picture of a hitchhicker i got on your rock. some kind of nudibranch. white, about 1" long and hairy

with the bags for media, i use a rubber band or nylon ty-wrap to seal the top

Bob...great idea! That way I don't need to buy anything :) Now why didn't I think of that? DOH!

Just goes to show how useful this thread is :D
