Michael, we had a Tunze 6060 in our 90, and it worked great.
I had a Tunze 6000 in my 102g, and I found I needed more flow...but that tank was wider then the 90. I added a Seio 1500 to that tank.
Since I sold my tank, we swapped Tunzes since the 6000 was programmable, and I would loose more money selling that one. Bob now has the 6000 and it works, but I do see it could use a little more flow directly beneath the 6000. I'm not sure, but I may have even seen a little cyano starting to grow in a couple of spots yesterday afternoon.
I looked this morning, and it's gone.....so I'm not sure what it was I saw. We could also try turning the flow up a little more and see if that makes any difference.

I would say if you don't have a lot of $$ and/or don't want to add a lot to your GC...then I'm almost positive you'd be really happy with the 6060. I know Danielle has the 6060 in her 72 bow, and she's very happy with it.
Also, being you already have numerous ph's in the tank, keep one on the side.....and after you have the Tunze set up for a while, if you feel you need a little additional flow, you can always add one that you had.

Thanks Pat,

I just ordered the Stream Kit from Marine Depot - it has one 6000 and a controller. A little more $$ then I'd planned but it seems like a good compromise between cost and feature. The very helpful guy on the MD phone suggests it'll likely take a while to find the right position and flow levels given my tank and rocks, etc. - and I can always leave in a power head if there's a low flow spot.

Now that I've made this purchase, I'm wondering how "most people" program the controller - do folks actually vary the flow much, and if so what are people's experiences with good (and bad) models for operating the stream units???

Thanks,

- Michael

I keep my power 1 setting about halfway and the power 2 setting all the way down. I also have a photo cell and when my lights go off it actomatically switches and stays on the power 2 setting. I have my pulse set so it switches about every 10 seconds.

BTW, I stopped and got the camera this morning! :D

How can I convince my boyfriend that TBS is the best bang for the buck? He told me to look around but I really do find that I like TBS better.

I don't know if I'd necessarily say it was the best bang for the buck, but it certainly is nice looking when you get it. I guess it really depends on what you want with your tank. If you want a reef tank, then you might be better getting some other type rock over the TBS. If you're planning on going FOWLR, then TBS will be the nicest looking by far.

well, i guess what i was trying to say when i said " best bang for the buck" was the package is a good deal and the rock does have alot of life on it.

Does most of the life survive?

Hopestar, different people have different success keeping the life alive. You will lose some of it, some have lost a lot. We are one of the lucky ones that still have quite a bit of the colorful sponges left.

Yes, it does come chocked full of life. Some good, some bad. The good outweighs the bad most of the time.
People have different results with what lasts and what doesn't.

We got a 90g package, and it was so awesome looking. For us, the beautiful sponges, tunicates, sea squirts and stuff like that didn't last. The tube corals mostly died...but many other people still have their tube corals. Some of the brains died, but others are doing great.
We still have some sponge...but not like what we had, and the majority we still have are the grey/brown. We do still have a couple of yellow ball sponges.

It was an awesome experience finding new things for months and months after getting the rock. I always wonder where all the things hid for so long.
The hermits are a PITA. Way too many and they killed many of the snails getting their shells. If I knew then what I know and like now, I would have asked TBS to just omit the hermits. There also seems to be a never ending supply of gorilla crabs.

You have to understand that everyone has different preferences. I found that I liked the corals we have to spend lots of money for better than the corals that came on the TBS. So when I got another tank, it made more sense for me to buy different type rock, which I got for less than Ã"šÃ‚½ the price of TBS, and then spent the difference on the corals I wanted.
I happen to like the shape and density of the other rock better also.

I don't regret for one minute getting the TBS. It was an experience like no other, and I treasure every minute, hour, month I had staring at the tank in amazement, finding new things.

The pistol molted again:

We tried again 3 days ago...same thing no vis.......and the weather has been really bad the last few days, small craft warnings, gale force winds, and severe coastal erosion from the huge swells.

It can only get better we hope! We have not been able to produce rock for over 45 days now.

When the weather and vis gives us a break, there will bet lots of phone calls to people waiting!
Thanks
TBS

Wow, you guys got boned last year with bad weather too. I hope you guys aren't taking too hard of a hit financially.

They got hit hard enough that they had to close their retail store in Tampa, which makes me sad as we loved going into their store on a Saturday afternoon and browsing through the tanks, looking for that certain something that would look wonderful in our tank!!! :(

I am amazed at the different color hues I get depending on which angle I take these shots at.
I used the tripod this time, but the hammer and frogspawn pictures, although nice and clear, were all washed out on the top....I guess the angle I was at and the way the light was shining on them. :(

the rock i see in all the lfs still leaves me cold. the only reason i started a reef was the tbs rock, and now i have 3 tbs tanks! on another note i finally got the flame angel i have been wanting and the bta that i bought in aug split in oct. now it has split again. i now have 3 bta's. in the 33 along with the huge condy. something has got to go! no room for any coral

Hi all. Thought I'd share a pic of the mantis I caught tonight. Today was the first time I had ever seen him, so I baited a bottle trap with krill that had soaked in garlic. I watched for about an hour and he went in three times, only to back out. Finally I got him...Here he is in the QT:

But guess what?...5 minutes later the display is still clicking! Dang, I had always thought I had a pistol until tonight, but maybe I still do!:(

We ended up with 5 mantis shrimp. We also have at least one pistol, perhaps two (we never get to see them so no idea if it is one or two). I still hear clicking from various areas of the tank but have never seen any sign of another mantis. The five that we had were always visible at one time or another so I am thinking that the pistol is around back behind the rocks and clicking away back there. He has a maze of tunnels dug under the rocks on the left half of the tank. He keeps rearranged the sand piles and making new exit and entrance holes....why he needs them when we never see him use them is beyond me!! :)

We also have another gorilla crab in the tank. I have no idea how we are going to get it out as we can't use the conventional traps, the fish would eat the bait out before the jar got to the bottom of the tank!! I'll just have to let him stay in there until he gets bold enough and used to me enough that I can catch him with the claw or the net.

Here are some pictures from our tank. These are all original inhabitants on the TBS rock.

Alligator sponge - this grows in many areas of our tank

79191Img3905.JPG

These yellow encrusting sponges seem to pop up in various areas of the tank from time to time.

79191Img3903.JPG

This orange sponge is our pride and joy. It's about the size of a fist and has been in the tank from our first package. Luckily, it's in the center of the tank, right under the condy, and very visible.

79191Img3901.JPG

Our brain corals had a rough time in the beginning and it's flesh receded in some places. Since we started target feeding it and feeding the tank reef chili, it has made a great come back. It has taken over some of it's skeleton and looks really happy now. :)

i'm looking for a link to bristle worms. i caught one this am that is red and white and hairy and about 2" long. i threw him in a bucket of water till i can id him. i know i've seen pictures of this one before.

One more picture. I know a lot of you don't care for the looks of macro in the display, but Brett and I do. We were thrilled when this red dictyota grew on it's own. We now have several bunches of this growing. Once the get to this size, we'll weed out the bunches we don't want and just keep the ones we do. Too bad we didn't have a tang, I understand they love this stuff!! :)

79191Img3900.JPG

The little ball behind and to the right of the plant is a small yellow ball sponge. There used to be a parent one next to it, but a crab removed it from the rock and now the sponge is decorating the pistol shrimp's home.
