I suggest you try the trap from my article, much better than waiting for them to show up again.

I agree with Brian. If you've already had 4, there are probably a bunch more. I feel extremely lucky that I only had that one. To me it was still one too many. It really grossed me out and I was so afraid to look into the tank each night for them, but it was something I had to do. :(

John, you can put the flower anemone anywhere you like, but if it doesn't like that place, it will move around until it finds something it likes.

I put him near the top and he seems to like it there. What are these cirolandis things and how do I find them. I've killed a couple of shrimp and still have one remaining.

How come you've killed shrimp? The cirolanid's are bad guys. Read Brian's article about them. Cirolanid's
Hopefully you don't have any.

They are mantis shrimp and I deciced I liked my clean up crew better than the shrimp. I tried to catch them but failed, so I stuck a pencil in the hole and smashed them. One hole was to deep so I have to get him another way. What do the flower anenome eat and how often should I feed it.

Do pulsating xenia ever stop pulsating, or do they just keep going forever?

Mine stop pulsating sometimes to take a rest--they close up--but after rested they start pulsating again.

Is it normal for them to rest and close up like mine do and should they be pulsating and open 24/7?

Hey Brian--I read your article on those Cirolanid things. Great article and increadible research!!!

I've seen these mothers in my tank before and had no clue what they were--they are fast little suckers! I thought my tank had bugs.

I am going to try your trap tonight but I doubt it will work--I've tried that trick to catch gorilla crabs before to no avail. And never pulled in a cirolanid.

Keep that pencil sharp, jallen. Just be careful not to poke the shrimp in the eye.

Why, what will that do?

Dennis and Bob both have the pulsing Xenia. I'm sure when they come on, they'll be able to answer it for you.

John, I didn't realize it was mantis shrimp you've killed. I guess I'm just not used to people calling them shrimp. ;)

Do you have fish in the tank yet? If so, have you seen any on the fish?

It'll make spearing the poor mantis shrimp easier and the shrimps ultimate death will be less painful.

I have one fish--a false common clown. That's all I want. I'd rather just stock the tank with coral. No--nothing on the fish. This little guy (Bozo, I call him) never stops moving.

Well keep a good eye out being you've seen them in the tank. Like Brian's article said, they seems to go off the fish when the lights go on.

Thanks, glad you liked it! i tried the traps with gorilla crabs too and they NEVER go in those. My trap was very effective a pulling out Cirolanids though. I caught the last 8 in my tank in I think 3 nights of trapping.

Just keep a careful eye on your fish at night after lights out and also look for any sores on the fish. But one thing I probably didn't stress enough in the article is that not all Cirolanids are parasites and the ones that are strictly scavengers are actually very good at scavenging.

Of course my wife thought they were so ugly and made her skin crawl that she wouldn't go near the tank after lights out.
