i also overfeed, thats why i think so much of my life is still with me after a year!my condi has to be 12"across

I went through a period of not feeding my tank due to Cirolanids and I lost a lot of my tube corals then. Since I've started feeding my tank 3 times a week the tube corals look a lot better, even some growth, and my sponges have REALLY taken off. I've got a gorgeous orange sponge growing on the underside of a rock that has 7 or 8 new siphon holes now :D

yeah! So looks like once the tank cycles I will have to see how much feeding I can get away with!

take care,
Jared

EXACTLY :) Of course I've had to cut back because too much cyano was forming in the tank :( I have a new skimmer that is slowly making it better, but if you feed too much then you get all the nasty algae.

Hey Now all!

Well...I have been thinking about those red tube corals. The rocks come from a 60foot depth according to the aquaculture video on TBS website. This surely means that most of life on the rock relies on food to live and not sunlight. The suns penetration at 60 feet cannot be that strong, so I wonder if those red tube corals are even photosynthetic at all.
So dosing dt's phyto etc consistently... may be extremely important, even more important than lighting.

What do you guys think?

take care,
Jared

Rock site is in 20 foot of water......

Brian what are you feeding your tank with 3xweek? I've started growing my own phytoplankton per Melev's technique and add this 2-3xweek along with Reef Chili 1xweek. My 75&45G tanks both have Keys rock so didn't have any tube corals & very few sponges. Had lot of tunicates which are still alive(since 8/05) along with a gorgonian that continues to grow. I did finally give away my condi as it outgrew the tank but my flower anemone cont to slowly grow/thrive. Oh, also have several clams still alive. Now starting to add SPS to 75G along with all the softies in both tanks.
Great to see TBS doing so well after the red tide last year!

Brian what are you feeding your tank with 3xweek?

Carla,

I feed my tank a mixture of the following depending on my mood and memory:

1. homegrown phyto bought locally (1 12oz cup 3 times a week, dumped into the return/fuge area of the sump to slowly circulate throughout the tank)

2. baby brine shrimp (frozen, or live if I can get it locally, 2x a week), either soaked or fed selecon

3. A mixture of mysis, squid, krill, cyclopleeze, DTs oyster eggs, table shrimp and flake food. (2-3x per week, all of this soaked in selecon)

For those of you with TBS brains, try feeding them frozen krill soaked in selecon. Mine have a very strong feeding response to it and have never looked better, one even appears to be growing now. The sick TBS brain is now in my main tank and appears to be hanging on, but only time will tell.

Hey, does anyone here refrigerate their selecon or can it be left out at room temperature?

Brian

I can't remember where I read it but it is supposed to be in the refrigerator.

My small bottle says nothing on it about needing refrigeration. I keep mine out with all the other foods and suppliments.

I went to the American Marine website and it doesn't say needs to be refridgerated. They even have a recipe on the site using the selcon-almost same recipe posted by Eric Borneman.

I'll continue leaving it out at room temp. It doesn't smell like it is going bad and no mention of refigeration on the bottle, you would think they would put that on there in bold letters if it needed to be in the frig. Just thought I would ask.

Thanks guys,

Brian

hey now Bob,

Havent tried it before. Who makes it?

Guys...I decided to not cut corners and to just gof or it! Instead of the 20 gallon package I am going for the 45gallon package! whoooweeee!

take care,
Jared
