Im so mad Im pretty sure that damn purple rock crab ate my serpent star =( He was right at the front of the tank every day for 2 months. Havent seen him now for over a week =( I found a mangled porcelain body, and noticed a small poreclain crab without one of his claws.

The crab on the other hand I had a run in with the other day. I didnt kill him outright but I stabbed him in the side with my giant tweezers and ripped off 3 legs before he quickly retreated to the depths of my rocks. Hopefully I did some damage to his main body section. Last I saw his main body was about 1 and 1/4 inches across.

Forget mantis and gorrilas, this guy is way worse.

Jaredt - Nice tank pics.

IMO I would rid your tank of the condy and flower anemones now. The condy will get big and your tank isn't very big. It will also eat your fish if they are dumb enough to get too close and in that size tank when it gets big it will be hard for the fish to stay away. The flower anemone get fairly large too but once they get a good foothold in your tank they are a PITA to get out. I'm still trying to figure out how to get mine out. It has its foot extended way under the rock and when you mess with it it shrinks up so much it disappears.

jezzeaepi - How many times have you read on this thread that there is only one crab that you want in your tank and that is porcelin crabs. All the rest will eventually eat something you don't want it to.

Hey Jaredt, how do you like your Deltec MCE600 skimmer? Have one on my 45G tank and love it. Your tank looks great! Agree with drk70 about taking out the condy anemone. Mine got huge and had to be removed. Still have the flower anemone in the 45G and it doesn't really take up much space. So far has been a model citizen.

I thought that perhaps since the tank is 24 inches deep the condy would have plenty of room for a long while, but I really do not know how big they get.

In keeping this tank 100% gulf do you still think I should take the condy out?

Or...when it does outgrow the tank it would give me a good excuse to go bigger ??

How fast do condys grow?

i LOVE my deltec mce600. I really love the fact that it is overflow proof...so when I travel I can sleep at night. :rollface:

You can probably keep the condy for 6-8 months. I kept mine about 6 months in a 45G til it got almost size of a basketball. Course I fed it about 3xw and that may have contributed to it growing so fast. Wanted to keep it well fed to keep it happy!
Wish I could have ordered more TBS rock. In the process now of setting up a 30G cube. Ordered Fiji rock from MD Live. They advertise Nano rock 3-11" size and I ordered 22#. Got 2 rocks about 3" each and a boulder. Have already tried busting it up with hammer/chisel but it is too dense for me. Guess husband will have to tackle it tonight. Needless to say I am not happy!

My condy got too big for my 75 IMO and it has been gone for months now. The only thing is once they get established well they may be a pain to get out.

My next plan of attack is to take a razor to my flower because I don't know any other way to get at it.

I'm in the same position as you. I haven't fed it in over 4 months and it keeps growing. It's foot is buried under the biggest rock in the tank that happens to be at the bottom of the tank. I'm stuck.

Same here about feeding. I haven't fed mine either. It gets whatever it can manage on its own.

I am well aware that crabs are bad. Ive probably said it like 20 times myself int his thread. Just sharing my experience with the purple stone crab. He has been very destructive. From ripping chunks off the rocks, to terroizing my smalller crabs, to even eatting a serpent star whos tentacles measured several inches in length.

my condi has got to go, its taken over my 33 long. i,ve had it over a year but i can't bring myself to take it out. i remember when i got the little guy, and thought, how long am i going to be able to keep it alive? little did i know!

Exactly....that's why it's best just not to put it in from the beginning.
Sally's is over a foot wide now!!

I know it may be unethical but if it is a pest in a tank you could inject it with joes juice.
