I kept my porcelain crabs, all the rest I have tried to remove. I have a couple of gorilla crabs left and they are terrors. I've seen them picking on my corals and then laughing and retreating deep into the rockwork where I can't get them :(

But one day they will get too bold and meet the business end of a chopstick.

Porcelains are the ones I kept too. Although I still have a good handful of the hermits that came with part 2.

I still have at least 2 gorillas in my tank. Not many hermits but lots of porcelin crabs.

Sorry no pics yet. :( I took the camera home but didn't get a chance to take any pictures. My Mom wanted the camera back yesterday so I didn't have it last night. I will try to steal it again tonight.

Well, these pictures are the first so pardon the ones that are not so clear. I took these this morning after I got up. It was a very exciting and very late ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ somewhere near 2 AM that I finally was able to hit the hay!!

Richard only way to say it is: :bounce3:OUTSTANDING MAN!!!!:bounce3:

First is the critter box. This was worth the price of admission!

Second box of rocks. They are full of coral and just spectacular:

OK. Richard did not send 1 peppermint shrimp ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ he sent 1,000,000,000!! Just after I placed the bag in the water to acclimate I looked up and she was giving birth. She was ejecting these things from underneath by the thousands. What to do at 1 AM when you have no idea what proper procedure to follow? Well, I placed her in the tank with some of the offspring. I placed the rest with the new rock. Hope some survive. Mother is doing fine!

I was definitely not expecting this! Unbelievable is the best way to describe the excitement when we opened the critter box and found these!! Any quick advice would be helpful. I can keep them together is my main question? Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ve read up on their feeding and health requirements but Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m no expert.

White Anemone:

Purple Anemone:

Not sure what this is but it is beautiful!! Really expanded this morning and was feeding:

More pictures to follow as these were not the only items I got. One of the biggest surprises was a small purple spider like shrimp. Tried to get a picture but you are aware of my poor photography skills! Also a neat celery stalk looking thing.

Jay

Jay that is a beautiful. I can't wait to get my part two.

What kind of instructions come with part two? Feeding or care or anything?

I tested ammonia thia AM and it's less than .25 on one test kit and at 0 on another. I'm going to catch a few more crabs and get some seltzer and flush out anything else I can find and then email Richard for my second half.

The white anemone is a flower anemone and the purple one is a condy.

I would say the last pic is some type of gorgonian.

Yup!

Yup!

As usual, you are correct!

I forgot to add this in my message:

Thanks all for the advice and info on the crabs. I have found a rather large purple crab so that makes two.

bobt2 ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ when you say you bait them ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ do you mean you use the plastic bottle trap? I ask because I had one placed in the tank for three days with a small piece of cocktail shrimp and got nothing. These guys donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t seem to leave their holes!

Brian ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ as your avatar displays, you are the hunter!!

[B[elzool[/B] ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ Yes similar to the one you got with the first shipment but with instructions for the critters. I did the same thing as far as ammonia testing goes. What I started doing is testing the RO/DI water and insuring that the test read zero with that. My tank was set-up before I added the TBS with some ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œnot-so-liveââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ rock from the LFS. I added a cocktail shrimp and started the cycle. That way the TBS rock would go into a tank that had cycled once. I would wait till you have the ammonia to zero before getting the second part. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m not sure how long your tank has been up but I added salt to my water in early March. Patience is what Waterkeeper preaches over on his Newbie thread and I have tried to stick with that. Hope this helps,

Jay

P.S. My wife is calling me every half hour with updates on the tank. The Flower Anemone is on the move!!:D

Jay,

At first I was NOT happy to get the CirolanidHunter name because of how many of those things I captured, but in the end I got my name in "lights" and it started a nice little side writing career for me.

I guess you could say I turned lemons into lemonade :) I'm now proud of being CirolanidHunter.

Keep us updated on your tank and more PICS! :D

What is it that needs to be done with the critters on a daily basis?
I wanted the tank to sit a couple weeks with the clean up crew before I started throwing fish in there so I wasn't planning on feeding anything outside of what I need to for the crew and life on the rocks.

The ro/di I am using is testing as zero. I'm just curious as to which test to believe, that's all. :)

The Salifert test is less than .25 and Aquarium Pharmaceuticals is at 0. I figured I'd wait another day or so, see if the Salifert test drops and if the AP test is still at 0, then make my call to Richard.

For my "creitters" i feed either a phytoplankton based liquid foor (kent phoyomax or something similar) a few times a week, and give the anemone and serpent stars (i got one big and one little :) ) bits of krill, shrimp, or silversides every three days or so - in general everything else will keep itself alive on the "stuff" in the water and on the rock, eating algae, pods, etc - remember, if they are a little hungry they ill do a better job scavenging for algae and detritus and the such.

what i did is to make a spear out of a piece of sharpened 3/32 wire glued into the end of 3/8 dowel. i put a piece of shrimp by their hole and waited. got a bunch of crabs and my only mantis this way

how do you sharpen 3/32" wire? Where would you find wire that fine? guitar string?

I keep a shot glass with a shrimp in it and just get snails, my crabs just watch and laugh

Sorry but only one photo tonight. Have been working on the tank all evening and watching Lost in between commercials!! Plus, tired from last night.

Not sure what this is:

My guess would be a shaving brush, a good type of macroalgae to have. Lots of people pay for them :)

It could also be a mermaid's fan.

Look back on page 22 at Jharler's post and Pat's question afterwards. It looks identical to yours and the response back was it is a shaving brush from the Keys.
