Our trip to the Georgia Aquarium + !!!Behind the Scenes!!! *TONS OF PICS*

I live 30 mins away and have been twice(I have a season pass).I absolutly love it as well!!!!!! I went early one time and late the next, deff. need to go early!!! But, besides the crowds it was awesome, and breath taking, it touches on every water habitat and well. It's a must see!! :bounce1:

Yeah, we got there at 9 in the morning. It wasn't crowded at all, but later in the day, it got SUPER crowded and it was a Monday! But we were there for 5 hours, so I think we got our time there! Thanks for all of the comments!

And yes, Behind the Scenes is $50. We only had 8 people in our tour group. I liked it because I was more comfortable with asking questions, and it wasn't crowded. So it was just a LOT better with less people in the tour group. They only take 15 people max at a time though. So we got lucky!

the behind the scenes was like $50 but it was worth it. it was only like an hour and a half buy it was just as cool as spending the whole day in the aquarium. i would highly recomend it-it is worth the money

But still... them being in a tank of any size is still different from the ocean. I dont think Tangs will ever breed in captivity.

Like everyone else said - thanks much for sharing. I went to the aquarium over the 4th holiday, but with 2 teenager (who are always bored :-( ) and twin 7 year old boys - there was no way I could get to do the behind the scenes tour. That's almost the best part for a hobbyist and your pics kind of make up for missing that!

Well, we are both only 15, but we also have SW aquariums. So I guess thats alot different. But my older brother doesnt like to do anything, he is 16. So I know what you are talking about.

Thanks for the comments:)

Yeah, definatly go on the Behind the Scenes. It really give you a whole different look on the tanks when you look at them after Behind the Scenes.

Thanks for sharing!!!! That was really interesting. I'm jealous. I would love to go behind the scenes of a public aquarium.

If you think it may be crowded when you go (which it probably would be) buy your tickets on line and print them out. The printed tickets have a bar code and you can go into a separate line to the person who has a scanner. They just scan the ticket and away you go! That will get you in much faster than the regular line.

Capacity when they first opened was 6,000 - got feedback that it was too crowded so they cut that to 5,000 - still too crowded so they cut that back to 4,000. In my opinion it's still too crowded but I went on the 4th of July weekend so maybe normally it's not that bad.

Still great though!

I'm with nosferatu51, I just went there this past weekend, and was not impressed at all, maybe I'm too harsh, but I felt they had no variety. A tank that large, and how many different species can you count? There are a 100 yellow and powder blue tangs, maybe be exaggerated, but you get the point. I seen one trigger in there, and some wrasses, anthias, and gobies. They had nothing I can't see at the local LFS, besides that what was in the large tank. (Sharks and whales) I guess I just wanted to see more variety. I would love to see some large angels as I have not seen many at the LFS...I seen one here, and I think it was at the gift shop. I don't recall seeing any eels at all.

I live in southern IN, and if anyone else lives close, it is a much better decision just to go to the Newport Aq in Kentucky, not worth the drive. I got tickets from work for there for $6.

But if you do go, def better to go within an hour of opening, I walked right in, no line.
