Out of Power

When i build i will have a natural gas or diesel genset that will run everything...

Power is back on.

That can be expensive, with a 16kW (66A @ 240V) generator, automatic switchgear....that's around $6,000+ installed. Your biggest starting load you have to overcome will be your central AC unit. Larger generators @ 20kW+ cost $$$.
I've also looked into this a few years ago.

Pretty sure the 16 kilowatt (16,000) gaurdian standy by can handle starting a 5 ton AC. It has a automatic start mechanisim on the AC circut, and temporarly cuts the power to the rest of the house for a second or two to allow the AC to start, then balances out the rest of the energy. It handles 89 amps constant. Besides, when you wire the stanby circuit, you dont wire every room into it, just the rooms you need/want to have power.

We looked into them too. And we had an electrician come out and quote 1200 install fee, and you sure can get the 16,000 watter from Home Depot for 2999.99. Course its the air cooled version, but hey when you keep all your money in a big glass box in the living room, heck that doesnt sound too bad.

Wont be enough to run the hot tub though, darn it

I will have a 20K plus unit. My house plans will be in the 5 to 6 thousand square foot range and I will have electricity to cover as much as possible. I purchased 10 acres last year with electric, well, and septic. I will be starting in spring on a large shop before I ever start on the house.

people with a lot to tanks, just have to have a backup generator..i am getting a whole house one after the weather is cleared...just too dangerous in okc with out a back up...Paul W....with your tank you should have something...
