Yes, I will try. Any tips on how to take clear photos? :D The first is some type of mushroom. Soft, has 'bubbly' looking top, like a ricordia... but if it is, I wonder what kind? The second, the 'stalk' is hard, but not like rock. It's definitely not aiptasia. It widens on top to a kind of flattened dome, which is what those finger looking things protrude from. if you touch it, they pull in, leaving that 'hard' stump. I'll try to take more clear photos

Thanks so much!

Kimberly, next time you visit my site, click on Hidden Treasure. That page shows all the pages on my site by category, and if you'll scroll down to photography, there are a couple of articles that should help you get better pictures. Also, RC has a Photography forum with tons of helpful tutorials that you could spend hours reading. My article is more like a 10 minutes read, and should get you on the right track.

If you think it is a mushroom, it could be a ricordia although the coloration looks more like a mini carpet anemone to me. The second one definitely sounds like a leather, like a Toadstool baby. :) Eventually as it grows, those prickly tips will sprout five petal flowers call polyps.

Mmm! - cheesecake. Myself, I make Linzertorte. :D

Hi Marc,

Well, prior to reading your reply, I did take a few more pics. Here are more of that little coral thingamabob without the tentacles out. It kind of sticks them out sometimes, then other times they're tucked away.

I took this one with my little clown in the pic to get an idea of how small that bitty thing is.

Here are a couple more pics of the (what I think is a) mushroom. Is this any better? I think my problem is inadequate lighting. I've ordered a compact flourescent light today, so I'm all excited!! I'll have better lighting!! Yay! So, uh, what do you think? (Disregard the algae growing all over my back glass :D)

Mmm! - Professional stripper. I have no idea what linzertorte is... ;) but am curious

Oh and P.S. the mushroom thing is soft, and it will close up if you touch it, like an anenome closes up. The coloration is darker reddish purple, light pinkish purple, with neon green patches that are fairly symmetrical 'striped' in there. Yes, it is stationary. It lays out like a mushroom does, that's why I keep thinking it is, but obviously :D I am noooo expert!

Hmmm, tres thanks for the recipe... SOUNDS yum! If'n you ever want to take the time to make an awesome cheesecake, I will share my recipe with you (but it can't be posted, it's a secret! lol)

Do you mean on YOUR ID page, or in this forum? Remember, I'm a newbie, so I am 'duh' when it comes to this sort of stuff!! :D

Kimberly, I'd love to see your recipe and promise to keep it private as requested. I don't eat much cheesecake because I know how every bite adds a pound, but I might make one before I have to make a New Years resolution. :D

Yes, I mean on my ID page. You can find Rock Anemones in the Anemone section, and the Toadstool leather is in the Soft Corals section.

Why thank you, sir... and be on the lookout in your email, I am going to send it along. Thanks again for helping me ID those little boogers... I hope that the 'mushroom' is in fact a rock anemone... unless it's more rare as a mushroom... lol

I'm going to go check out your page again, then!

Kimberly

Oh, by the way, it's not a rock anemone... I have 3 of those in my tank, too! The search will go on!

Sigh.... When I get my light (hopefully in a couple of days or so) I'll try again for pics. This little guy has really no base (except for what he attaches himself to the rock with) but there is no 'trunk' to speak of. It's just flat on the live rock. I looked again, and the neon green is more of spots instead of stripes that I said they were before.... It's really killing me to find out what this guy is!!!! lol

Kimberly

Thank you so much. I'm finding all kinds of new and scary things in my 6 week old tank. Your link is a godsend.

THANKS MARK

Hello, this is a fairly simple task. Have you tried using google?

Good luck

Are you speaking to me about my ID page?
