Beautiful Unknown Crab

Beautiful Unknown Crab

Any help identifying it or it's behaviors would be greatly appreciated.

I just noticed him in my tank today. He is shy. He has white and black hairy stripped legs. His body shape resembles a emerald crab. He has bright red eyes. He is shy. I believe he is making his cave larger. The tips of his claws are red or orange.

I will be following up with more pictures of him.

Thank you.

Have I seen this picture before? Is this a crab that is trapped in the hole and can't get out because it grew in there? If you can email me a larger picture, I might be able to help. melev@swbell.net

No, he's not trapped and I've never posted before. Tonight I will send some more pictures. Thanks for your response.

He was only out for a few minutes. He's hiding now. I pumped brine shrimp into his hole tonight with a feeder. I hope he got some.

I've added a new photo I was able to get of him. It's wierd how he suddenly has shown up in my tank as I can't imagine what he'd of hijacked in on lately.

Due to the shape of the tips of the claws, my feelings is it is safe. Let me know how things work out. That's a great picture, 55gallons.

What's this guy? He's in my fuge right now. He came in on some grassy stuff on live rock (along with a few wacky other wacky things). He's at least an inch long...can't imagine how long if I stretched him out.

Marc, I was told this was a curlyq anemone but from what searching I have done I don't think so. The thing is huge with a voracious appetite and he will not stay put. Tonight he started his "float about" and ended up getting stuck on the intake grid for my closed loop. He will survive but he was wounded. I am at a pint where I'm afraid I might be doing him more harm than good.

My photo skills, or lack thereof, don't show the cool colors of this creature. Deep purple at the base and bright green tips.

Rod, there is no way to say for sure without seeing the underside of the anemone. Can you do that? Is the foot red and on the underside of the disc is there white dots/warts on it?

All that aside it looks like a Long Tentacle Anemone, Macrodactyla doreensis.

Yes on the underside it appears there are warts or white bumps. The foot is more of a lighter peach color or at times (when expanded) a creamy color. I'll try to post a pic showing some of the underside here in a sec . . .

Okay here we go.

FIRST, I apologize for the picture quality. (I hate it when people say that but it is what it is)
SECOND, well, I apologize for each picture.

Okay the first one shows the little white warts on a piece of the underside that it has folded onto itself.

I guess this photo is not so bad but it just a working photo. Anyway it's a good shot of the shoe as it starts it's float to happier waters.
