Over Flow HELP!!! i just cant win!

Ok so i just went thru a whole ordeal with a noisy sump. Finally solved that problem and its dead quiet but now i noticed after i set up the reverse durso in my sump w/ 1in to 1 1/2in pipe the water level in my tank has risen to a level i don't feel conferrable its prob. less the 1/8in from going over my overflow walls!!:headwallblue::hmm2:

Could the cause of this be the fact that there is 3/4 pipe in the over flow??

What can i do to solve this problem??

It really sounds like the addition of a (plastic) gate or ball valve in your return line (after the pump) would be the simplist solution. Your pump is just pushing too much water for your drain to handle. The valve will allow you to fix this with the turn of the dial and no major replumping to your drain will be required.

Like greech said, it's a balance between the pump capacity and the overflow capacity. The only thing, though, is that the balance and the water level was OK until you placed that reverse durso.

A few things I suggest you check. Check the height of the drain tube in the internal overflow. Did you inadvertently push it up higher? Regardless, try pushing it down deeper. Next, check the airvent in that drain pipe. If it is clogged, water will not flow efficiently in your drain. Get something that fits in the vent and goes it's full length, and see if it's clogged, then dribble some RODI water down the vent to make sure it is indeed clear.

If both the above check out OK, then what changed when you put that reverse durso in was that all those angles and additional tubing caused a restriction in drain flow. To correct this, replace the tubes you used with larger diameter tubing. Going from 3/4" to 1" will help, and if you can change all those fittings with larger diameter will also help. Like using a large 2" T like I posted in your other thread.

i might end up trying this as it seams the easiest

Next, check the airvent in that drain pipe. If it is clogged, water will not flow efficiently in your drain. Get something that fits in the vent and goes it's full length, and see if it's clogged, then dribble some RODI water down the vent to make sure it is indeed clear.vent is clear as i am still running tap water as not to waste all that saltwater

the overflow pipe is 3/4 and everything under the tank is 1in then to 1 1/2in

+1

Add a ball valve for sure, plus then you can slow the flow when you feed your fish and corals at night

If your drain is 3/4" then that is your problem right there, you're at the very limit of that drain with whatever pump you're using. Stepping that up to 1" or larger will surely drop the water level down. No sense valving down the return pump if you don't have to, so I would just replace the overflow with a larger diameter piece o' PVC.
