Over foaming skimmer

Is the barbed fitting clear and not plugged? My skimmate isn't popping completely but still isn't pushing the lid off.

Thanks! Thaose pics were taken less than ten minutes after I cleaned it out AGAIN.. by this time tomorrow, the lid will be off and there will be foam down the left side. As you can see in the second pic... the barb for overflow acts as a vent until the skimate level reaches it. When I clean the collection cup, I make sure that water flows out through the barb, so I know it's clear..

I'm thinkin you need to drill a few holes in the top. This will at least keep the bubbles from pushing the top off and will give the bubbles time to pop and reduce to liquid. I'm thinkin the skimmate and bubbles are blocking the hole for the barbed fitting and making the bubbles go up faster instead of giving them time to pop.

Hi, It could be what it is skimming out of your tank. Perhaps an additive mixing with the bubbles causing a harder bubble. I would make sure that the fitting on the side of the collection cup is clean (run a pipe cleaner through it) This should allow pressure to escape. As well it appears that there is not much room between the neck of the skimmer and the collection cup lid. You may want to consider trimming this down allowing more area between the neck and the lid for the bubbles to dissapate. I would put some weight on the lid to keep it in place. Once that fitting is cleaned there should be no build up of pressure forcing the lid off which in turn would force the foam into the skimmer cup.

Painting and drywall ( more than what I did in the last two weeks ) didn't bother it.. When it first started doing it, ( overfoaming) I put the collection cup on but didn't screw it on to increase the lenght of the rise. That helped, but I still have the problem of the foam not breaking down.

I haven't used additives in about a year, I just run the calcium reactor and feed once a week.

May be overdue for the annual water change.
