overfed anemone

yesterday, i gave my anemone a biggerpeice of shrimp than usual. When i was looking for some interesting critters at midnight, i noticed he was spitting the shrimp out. today, he is deflated and his mouth is gaping, instead of puckered up. Should i worry about it dying?

should be ok, its just telling you that it was too much or didn't agree with him for some reason. How often do you feed?

2 or 3 times a week. this is the first time it has happened. i feed so often because my female clarkii (4.5in) will sometimes steal the food, and because it want it to grow faster (2.5in across)

I have a tactic that I use for feeding my RBTA. I bought a clear plastic tube that's about 1" in diameter. I extend it all the way down to the mouth of my anenome and drop the food down it. My Maroon goes nuts when he sees it traveling down the tube but he can't get to it. The Anenome closes up and the food is history...

not sure if you do this but feed your fish before you feed the anemone and hopefully they'll be so full they won't care

i fed my RBTA to death. i was feeding every other day, sometimes every day, 1 silverside each feeding. it 2.5X it's size in a month. it was beautiful. then last feeding it took veeeery long for it to even get to mouth. then it was in mouth about 1 hr, about 1/3 of silverside was in mouth, then maroon clown ripped it out. i knew something was up when he didn't devour it as usual. next morning there was slimy crap in water, the RBTA mouth was huge and there was slimy stuff coming out. it was dead or dying. it was not just deflating. keep an eye on it. my next RBTA will only be fed 1 or 2 times a week. i learned my lesson.

I have witnnessed the stress put on a nem by the size of the food you give it, and how difficult it can be for it to swallow it. I had one (RBTA) that was about 10" across and beautiful and by giving it food (silversides) that was to big I caused some damage to the nem. It has taken about three weeks to get it back to health, and now I no longer spot feed. I just use Cyclop -Eeze and let the nem catch that and whatever food the fish miss.
