Overfeeding blue tang?

So, I put a lot of nori into the tank this morning, and didn't realize how much it was until it was in. I decided to leave it in so long as the fish were still eating off of it regularly. Its been in there a good 8 hours, and my hippo tang is still goin at it. I'm just a little curious cause I just looked at him and he is visibly, fat from eating all day. I know some fish will eat till they die, and some wont, but I was just double checking that tangs are grazers that will stop when full.

Thanks!

IME they do not over eat (like a goldfish). I have a hippo that eats his nori until his sides are fat and lumpy. He's fine. I wouldn't worry.

Tangs have a high metabolism and when they eat seaweed they are getting less nutirion than when they eat meats,so constant grazing is usual. Do you feed the tang meaty foods as well . Mine love it.Overall try not to overfeed since the more they eat the more they poop and the more nutrients you add to the tank.

Well, generally I try to keep him away from eating meat just because he then tries to live on meat instead of eating nori, but when I feed my clowns he does get some cyclops. He does love it, he just loves it too much, which is I think the root of his having hlle when I got him.

I've had my Paracanthurus heppatus(hippo tang, blue tang, regal tang) for six years. It eats myssis, brine, bloodworm, spirulina, cyclopeeze and occasional nori. As these fish mature they become more carnivorous in my experience. I doubt the HLLE relates to meat eating.

I agree, it's unlikely that the hlle is related to a penchant for enjoying meaty foods, more likely just poor nutrition. I wouldnt worry about it eating so much nori, but add a bit less next time you put it in the tank.
