Overflow Advice

Mine is 1-1/2" off the back wall OD (1-1/4" ID) x 4" tall and 30" wide. I wanted to keep the overflow 9" off the side glass, hence the 30" length. My external box is also 16" wide, 4" deep but I made it 16" tall to give me room for the drain lines. I wish I had taken some better pictures of it before I placed the tank so I could share them with you. I have three 1" drains, a primary full siphon, a secondary drain that gets just a trickle of water and a third emergency drain that is 1/2" above the secondary that should never see water but lets me sleep at night! I use a gate valve at the bottom of the primary drain, the other two drains do not have valves.

Thanks Grun! I'll probably make the external box larger like you mentioned. It is smart to have extra room for the drain lines. Yes, that's the same reason why I'm switching from the Herbie to the BeanAnimal. I want to sleep in piece and not have an angry wife!

Is your tank against a wall? I plan to have mine against a wall without much working room.

Hey Grun, I just picked up the glass for my internal and external overflow from my local glass supplier. I had a question about the drilled holes in the back of the tank that allows water between the internal and external overflows. I bought a 2 1/2" drill bit for the job... but I don't know how low I should drill the holes? I'm thinking maybe a 1/2" or a full 1" below the top of my internal weir? Any advice?

Thanks!
