Overflow/algae problem W/PICS

How do I get rid of this crap that is taking over my overflow. It will clog the inlets of my overflow in two weeks after cleaning it. I don't want this algae to spread through my tank. Thanks...

I was going to suggest the same thing. I had a lot of algae growth in my overflow also. I removed it all and then placed a cover on it that I had laying around that I used to use on my sump. Not an exact fit but covers it up nicely and it can't been seen anyway because of my hood. So far the problem has not returned. Good luck.

Put a filter sock over the drain before you scape it off and leave it running for a day.
The algae seems to grow in a high flow area---esp there and around power heads. No one has ever given me a satisfactory answer why however.

Get it out as fast as you can. Do a search on Y-branching algae. Dictyota sp? to be more precise. It can take over a whole tank in no time. I had to remove all my rock and cook it to get rid of it.

Started off as this cute little bunch.
