Overflow can't keep up...

Alrighty I purchased a custom PVC overflow system from the guy at CR. From what I saw at the store on the demo tank etc, they looked like a good idea and a pretty simple design.

I purchased the medium version and he said that I can run a Mag 3 (350 gph) on it and it will keep up just fine.

I finally got enough salt to get my sump going, so tried out the overflow and it seemed to be running great until I noticed that the water level in my 40g is creeping up little by little.

Question is what can I do to speed up the overflow or is it basically downsize to a Mag 2? Let me know what you guys think!

It can't keep up with 350gph??? What diameter tubing is used???

Theres not much you can do to speed up your overflow... You do need to make sure that you're getting a good siphon going though... If there is anything restricting water from going through the U tube or however the overflow is set up, it will not drain as well... Also if there is too much air in the U tube, you won't drain as fast either... HTH...

Downgrading your pump would be better than putting a ball valve on the mag3... Just an FYI

hmmmm PVC is 3/4 as is listed on the tube. I'm not sure why it's not sucking what it said it was. He designed them so they don't mantaine the bubble in the U-tube so... it's just kind of odd.

I may have to see if he can make the next step up for me because I really want to keep the Mag 3 going because it seems to be a good rate of flow through the sump.

Looks like a phone call to the CR tomorrow for me... *sigh* any more ideas? I do have the tube entering the water in my sump and it goes under by about an inch, is that causing too much back pressure?

Just took off my hose extension that ran into my sump so that the water leaves the hose above the water line and splashes down into the sump. Lets see what happens now.

Wow this thing is REALLY noisey now :/

I have one and i had to compensate for the head pressure. mine gained over a foot of head compared to the store one.....Rob will be the guy you want to talk to
