overflow geeks needed

I am about 3/4 the way through the building the new tank-I will have lots of pics later. I am wondering how many GPH a weir that is 14 inches by 1/2 inch can handle, no teeth--solid overflow.
The RC calculator is for a typical over flow which has teeth in it. Any help would be great.

I could have used it when I cut my overflow (didn't know it existed). What are the dimensions of the teeth? I was planning on doing a solid next time because of the lack of time to experiment but this info might change that.

Are there any down sides to having a Solid over flow VS Teeth overflow?

I have been thinking of cutting the Teeth down on my overflow (making them Shorter).. My Drain can the flow, but the water has to go above the teeth because they are to small (when the water is above the teeth is is less than a 1/4" from over flowing).
I already have made the teeth gabs as big as I can with out taking them out. So for now I have to back down my flow.

Phil Sorry to high jack your thread.

I cant see any unless you have really small fish. The teeth will just restrict the amount of water going into the overflow. You could also put some gutter guard on it.
I am having a top 6 inch surround shelf put on top of my tank and I am not worried about any fish going through a 14x1/2 inch weir. After the shelf is on you wont even be able to see the weir from the tank viewing side.

You are not hijacking-I already got my answer

!wrass! I have no teeth in mine it is a solid 14x1/2

Your old 240 that we moved to the basement for George had overflow teeth in an overlay that would just come off the back.

I don't want to move the Black overlay because then I would see all the pipes.. However I have thought about cutting the teeth off and just make it even with the Glass overflow. The bad part is I cannot move the Black overlay because I just now finally got Zoo's starting to grow on it. Can I just take a roto zip across the top and knock off the teeth? or will the plastic (saw dust) hurt the tank Or will it just settle to the bottom?

Here is what it would look like with out.

Actually I think the plastic would mostly float. I know when I've done other pvc cuttings that have got in the tank it would float. To better insure that, turning off all powerheads etc. would help keep it up top, then slowly turn back on the main pump and filter sock catch anything floating.
