overflow gurgling

okay, I just got off the phone with aga, asking them about the horribly loud gurgle sound from durso. They said to make sure the drain line is as straight as it can be, which mins is almost perfectly straight from the tank to the inlet of my sump, about 12-16" long. They said also to try drilling some holes in the top of the durso so more air can enter... but I am reluctant to drill it, I just paid 50 bux for this overflow kit.

I wish I knew why my overflow gurgles so bad, the water level in the overflow is constant, no more flushing effect like I had, moving the drain line just below the water surface fixed that, compared to have it pretty deep in the water to begin with. Other people with this overflow and aga overflow kit have said that thiers is quiet. any more tips for me?

Drill it with the smallest bit you have. You should at least see some improvement. You can then drill larger and larger until you get the desired effect. By starting small, you have the option of re-sealing the hole more easily should you decide to back out of that idea.

I ended up drilling two small holes (~1/16th) in the top of my home-built durso to get things where I wanted them. I can slightly hear some air sucking through one of the holes; I haven't decided whether or not to pursue this.

FWIW,

Cheers!

Drill it out to fit a piece of airline tubing snugly in the hole. Use about 6" of airline and add an airline valve on the other end.

The tubing acts as a muffler and the valve allows you to adjust hole size.

Placing some open pore filter sponge on top also acts very well as a silencer - Make sure though that it can't get sucked down the pipe though - perhaps by tying it onto something. I had the same problem and my sponge was working really great until it accidently got sucked all the way down the durso when I turned off my return pump during a maintenance session. The only way to get it out was to cut through the plumbing.

yup... i had same problem
added a airline and air-valve to top of my durso.....gurgling is gone
