Overflow plumbing?

On the plumbing from my overflow on the main drain would I be ok if I had to put a horizontal run of 2 to 3 inches? I know it's not ideal.

There are other things to consider like style of drain, where the horizontal section is located , size of pipe & a couple others to give u a definite answer without knowing more. U will most likely be fine though.

If it's a syphon it can make it a little more difficult to purge the air, but if u don't have anything else in the drain making it more difficult to purge the air u will likely be ok. I would make sure to only submerge the end of the pipe only 1/2" to 1" in the sump

If it's a open channel it may make it slightly louder

It's a Herbie overflow. The pipe is 1" diameter. It's the pipe the full siphon is on. The flat spot is near the bottom just before the sump. It ended up only being 2 45's so about a 2" flat spot. There is no gap between the 2 45's. The pipe was a little off from lining up.

It is definitely better to use 45's instead of 90's but I see a lot of people make the mistake of using 2 45's to make a 90 which is the same thing as just using a 90. For instance, if u need to get over 3" to line up with the sump u would use a 45 then run the pipe on a 45 degree angle until u get to where u need to be. Then use another 45 to get back square with the sump. So u only use two 45's instead of 2 90's. I see a lot of people that would use 4 45's in that scenario which is basically the same as 2 90's. Sometimes u don't have the hieght to do it like that so it isn't a option.

U will be fine SFish, u will have enough pressure above the horizontal part to where it won't be a issue. Just remember not to submerge the outlet no more then 1" into the sump or u will be making it even more difficult to purge the air so the syphon kicks in.

I know two 45's are the same as a 90. It would have taken two 90's to get to the same place.

I have about 8 inches of horiz in my siphon - no issues. Albeit its a bean not herbie setup.

That's what I was doing. My first sump is tall and the pipe wasn't making it over the top. I also had to jump around the stand as it's a bit bigger then the tank. I couldn't do a straight shot down.
