overflow question

I have a 55 gallon tank I'm setting up and it wil have a 10 gallon sump. I just want to ask if it will be a problem using an overflow rated at 600 gallon per hour when the return pump I will use in the sump is the maxijet 1200.

A Maxijet is not much of a return pump. Where will the sump be mounted and how much vertical lift will it take to get water to the display tank? The Maxijet is designed as a powerhead for circulation or use onundergravel lift tubes not as a return pump with head against it.

I would be surprised if the maxi jet could even pump water up to the tank, I can't find a head rating any where. What you really need is a submersible pump (to keep things simple), like a Mag Drive 7. Bigalsonline.com has them for $59 which is a pretty good deal!

I am getting the cpr50 overflow. this overflow is ratefd for up to 300 gph. I would think 3 feet is the lift to get the water back to the tank. K, I will be looking at some other pumps. Thanks guys

The MJ1200 would make it, but with a low amount of flow. A Mag3 would be a good pump.
