wow theres a lot of info here. well i have a 120g tank that i want to turn into a reef tank it has two over flows that my first problem.i was at aquitic technolgy and they sell overflows kits that are $75.00 each. I seen that you can make them but wont that be hard to make sure they have the same flow? thanks for any help in advenced

If the tank you bought already has the overflows built in, which I am assumming it does then all you will need is to get some pvc piping and you can make your own for a way lot less money. There are a number of DIY types (Durso, Bean Animal silent overflow) that you can do. There are a number of reefers around you that would be more than happy to help you set them up. I am sure one of them will post up and offer to help. As far as having 2 overflows that is a plus and not a problem. IIRC that size tank has 1" overflows x2 do you should be able to flow 600 GPH through each one. They don't have to be exactly the same flow but they will be close. If you need more flow you could drill the back of the tank for an additional bulkhead overflow. HTH

make them yourself out of pvc. doesnt matter if flow is the same, because you wont be using the max capacity of the pipe anyway. if you are using the max capacity (by creating a siphon) you are asking for trouble anyway, (unless you use a different overflow system, which you arnt so it doesn't matter.

you will need: (i assume they are 1.25" drains, but just adjust accordingly to whatever size pipe you need to use)

(2) 1.25 bulkheads
(1) 4' section of 1.25" sch 40 pvc
(2) 1.25" pvc T couplings
(2) 1.25" pvc 90 elbows
(2) 1.25" pvc endcaps
(1) Small container of pvc cement

I thought the drains on the AllGlass 120 were 1" with 3/4" returns which was my only negative issue with the tank. My personal standards are 1 1/2" drains and 1" returns but again that is just me. Kinda hard to plug a 1 1/2" pipe.

thinks everyone i think ill be going to lowes tomarrow and building some overflows. is there a way to increse from 1inch to 1 1/2 and what are the advantage and disadvantages to that if posable thinks again

1.5" is harder to clog
