overflows making a loud gurgling sound

I just set up a new tank and the overflows are making a loud
gurgling sound. Anyone know how to fix this???

setup a durso standpipe... it'll cost you around 2 dollars to make your own.

I believe that is what I have.... the intake is an upside down
U-shape.

oh... did you drill a hole on the top? start with the smallest drill bit and increase the size each time until the gurgling stops.

Before you start drilling, I hope everyone is referring to the same picture. Here is a link to the Durso Standpipe website:

Be sure to click on "Build Your Own Standpipe" at the top and scroll down to the diagram.

The hole to drill is not shown but it should be on the end cap (part #10) in the diagram.

Do a search as well for the Herbie method of overflow. It's dead silent. If the noise is coming from the long drop at the top of your durso to the sump, then the durso won't help. The Herbie method will make it all completely quiet.
