Overgrowing green toadstool...

I have a large one about 18" across that is beginning to shade some really nice sps that have been growing for 3 years!

I have never "trimmed" a leather of any size to my question is can I just take some scisors or a razor and trim it up or is there a better way?

use a scalpel, take the toadstool out of tank. turn upside down on a cutting board and trim around it. cut the trimmings into pieces and attach to rock rubble with thread.

I agree but ,I do not know if I would want all those coral "juices" on a cutting board intended for food. Of course this is coming from a chef and I am always thinking about avoiding cross contamination.

Also elastic bands work well to attach your frags.

My wife didn,t like the one we had and baught a new one. Me being a pack rat put the old one in the basement closet.

I personally would not want to cut any leather in a tank containing sps. I'd prefer to cut it in a separate container - the cut parts will "bleed" a bit and it's best to minimize the allelopathic compounds by letting that happen in a bucket or something. if you're going to cut it in the main tank run a lot of carbon.

the best way to attach the frags is by stabbing them with plastic toothpicks held on rubble by rubber bands.

I cut our toadstool over a towel. It was easy and with little juice.

I would run some carbon if you can.

I use a HOT Magnum filter for this. A reactor would be good too.
