Overkill on the light?

I'm setting up a "zero edge" tank (clam tank) in my living room and was going to use two 150 watt HQI ballasts that I already have. I'm going to keep a mixture of corals and clams in it. I'm concerned that 150 watts x2 bulbs won't get enough depth to the bottom of the tank, approx 2 to 2.5 ft? So, I'm thinking of getting one 400watt HQI.

Finally the questions:

Will the two 150watt HQI do the job?

Will a 400watt HQI bulb in a pendant look like a spot light in my living room?

Ed,

It was good to meet you at IMAC at Rod's booth.

I am the guy that also bought a Zero Edge from Splash of Life. I am using an Aqua Medic w/a 250watt HQI that was being used with the tank...it appears to be fine..just to let you know.

Good luck with your Zero Edge, the family loves it-especially when we have visitors..they are amazed by the tank...

Let me know if you have any questions...pm your phone # and I will be happy to talk with you.

Bill.

Ed I think 400 watt would be enough for clams. I was keeping clams in a 42 Hex that is 28 inches deep with only one 150 watt MH HQI and a 20K bulb. I was dosing phyto but my clams grew to the point I traded them away.

a single 150 would be more than fine on that tank, however if I had a 250 I would use it. A 250 could be hung a little higher which I think would look better with that tank

Ed,

Let me know when you want to stop by...weekends typically better given the kids schedules..

Sullyman, I am working on the pics..hopefully within the next week.

As I mentioned earlier, when visitors come over they can't get over the tank. I have had many SW tanks, and while they have attracted attention...nothing like this.

By the way, a plug needs to go out to Rod..he designed a sump and fuge set up in the stand that allowed me to almost triple the water volumn...GREAT JOB ROD!
