I just started running a PhosBan reactor on my 26 for a red slime problem. It's been driving me nuts for nearly two months. The reactor will have been up one week this week end. The red slime spread during the day has slowed since turning on the reactor, but, I am not sure if that's because of the reactor or the fact that my MH bulb blew as the result of a brown out?
As for hair algae, I run a 9W UV sterilizer and it really seems to help. You may need a little larger unit on your system
sorry to hear about your manderin - just found this thread lol. I guess some tanks can keep them and some just can't for whatever reason - seems wierd to me.
The mandarin didn't make it because my tank was just too new. I'll bet it would do better now as I have amphipods the size of shrimp, and every other size too, running around now in the tank, the fuge and the sump. Maybe if I see a nice example of one at one of my many LFSs I will try again but no rush here.
Hey look at my setup and location for a 26gal tank...i'm not in my right mind.
But hey, I decided to look at it this way: If he (the yellow-tail damsel ) gets to the point of being too big before I finish setting up the larger FOWLR tank I can always move him to the sump (with its 80+ gallons of water) for the time being.

Note to self: Airbrush out all fish from future pictures.
@roadie...I never took it as anything other than that. I know it will grow. I also know that I have a reasonable plan to deal with it when the time comes. For right now I like how the fish look in the tank and believe it or not everyone basically gets along.
hahahha.... I did not even look at the fishes and was focusing on the rockscaping & corals. I have a yellow tail damsel in my tank and did not think twice.
