A new toy just arrived. Maybe now I can finally dial in my CA reactor.

And while we were setting up the regulator we made some nice effluent cups:

Since you asked...post sandy the tank took a turn for the worse. I guess it was just too darn cold for too long. I had the heaters up and running pretty quickly on a small generator but the house didn't have heat for almost 3 days so the heaters couldn't keep the tank above 70. Anyway after sandy things just started dying a little at a time and then hair algae took over. I was busy with other stuff so I decided to just ride it out and just do minimal maintenance until I had time to resurrect the tank. Well a couple of months ago I notice that the tank started coming back on its own so I took that as a sign that it is time to get back into the hobby. At the end of it all two clowns, a damsel, some snails, some mushrooms and some zoas survived and were the basis for reviving the tank. In the last month I've added a few simple corals and a clean up crew. The good news is that all the corals are surviving so I'll start adding in a few more colonies as I find them.

I'll add pics this weekend.

The time has come...

The time has come...

After 15 years the time has come for me to leave the hobby (at least for a little while...maybe I'll be back).

We are moving and the new house will not be as accommodating for a tank (although I do have some idea of having a true nano on the built in bar at some point).

The timing is almost perfect because the display tank has apparently developed a slow leak somewhere on the bottom. I see salt creep along the edges and occasionally a small puddle of saltwater.

My guess is that some worm or similar has burrowed through the silicone. I actually have a similar problem with my rubbermaid stock tank that I use as fuge (the upper one) but at least that only drips down into the sump.

So either way the tank needed to be dismantled.

I will have a ton of work to do over the next couple of months to get rid of all the coral, fish, rock and equipment I have accumulated over the last 15 years.

Happy Reefing to you all.

Jeff
